Private Nursery Fees

If you have a child in a private nursery and you have to get them COVID tested, do you still have to pay full fees whilst you wait for the test results but can't send your child in? Just wondering whether most nurseries still charge full fees or if any give any kind of discount.

Yes. We only get a discount if nursery has to close or if the dc have to isolate because of a positive case of covid at nursery (not if they are exposed to it elsewhere).

LoopyGremlin · 06/07/2021 11:27

The service is still there and they would still have staff to pay so the answer will be yes, you still pay. Not sure what the case would be if the nursery had to close due to staff having to isolate. In that scenario I would hope there might be a refund.

Yes you pay the fee to keep your child’s space open. Similarly to when you choose not to send your child for a holiday or suchlike.

Yes, we pay if our son has symptoms and needs a test. The only time we don't pay is if someone in his bubble tests positive and he has to self-isolate.

Bobholll · 06/07/2021 11:38

Yep, still have to pay. The only time we’ve ever not paid is when the nursery room fully closed due to covid.. even if your child has covid, you still have pay. Same as any other illness unfortunately.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 06/07/2021 13:08

Yes. The days are booked and everythings already been paid for by the nursery (staff/food).

We have to pay even if the room is closed due to a positive case. We've had so much time off due to this or while we waited for test results, we could probably have halved the monthly fee a few times. Sadly it still has cost us a bomb.

Always full fees for child’s illness.

Our nursery doesn’t charge if DS has to isolate because of a positive case in his bubble. I think that’s quite unusual though.

Otherwise if he has any sort of symptoms and can’t attend nursery as per normal sickness policy, or has to isolate due to positive contact outside the nursery setting and we can’t send him then yes we get charged.

I think it’s a fair balance.

Ihaveoflate · 06/07/2021 13:57

Yes, of course. It never crossed my mind that I wouldn't. The same as if my child is ill or we go on holiday. They can't fill the space in her absence and their costs are the same.

MyMabel · 06/07/2021 14:01

DD just got over a virus, I thought she was just being clingy the morning it started but nursery rang for me to come and pick her up on the morning lunchtime, they asked for her to be kept off for the whole week which is fair enough she turned out to be very poorly anyway.. we still had to pay full price even though it wasn’t my decision to take her out of nursery. Was a bit annoying but I wouldn’t have sent her in anyway with how she was so not much we can do.

mindutopia · 06/07/2021 17:25

Yes, same as if you have to keep them home for any other reason. It is illness. Usually if they have a fever, you'd be asked to keep them home anyway or for 48 hours for d&v. Or god, 7-10 days for chicken pox (which is hell). But yes, always paid for sick days.
