Today felt like a protrusion of one of my toddler's spine discs. But baby seems in no pain , and is enjoying and playing as usual.
Maybe I am overthinking ?

No one here can diagnose anything OP. If you’re concerned contact your GP or 111.

They aren't discs they're bony vertebrae
And yes quite normal to feel the spinous processes of the vertebrae especially at the back of the chest where they sit close to the skin.

Toddlers don't generally have the muscles/fat layers adults have which cover them

@PacifyLulu yes I willl be talking to his ped too but just wanted to know if mums here faced something similar

What you're seeing is the spinous processes
The rest of the spine is covered by muscle

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 05/07/2021 06:26

That's absolutely normal.

@WaltzingBetty yes but I feel a particular piece near the lumbar region, the lower back I mean I can almost feel it protrude and visually too it seems so. But wouldn't the baby show signs if it really were so.

Not necessarily could be scoliosis - it's a fairly common finding that causes no problems in most people or it could just be normal protruding spinous processes

Best to check with your GP/paediatrician as no one on MN can tell you

@WaltzingBetty thanks dear. I just talked to my baby's ped. She said it most likely is normal and that she said "pain is out of question" when I told her baby doesn't seem in pain . Don't know what she meant by that. She said show it when u come next time.
I just clicked a new pic of close up of stickout part. can u please just check once

It all looks pretty normal to me but I'm not a paediatrician so if you've spoken to the paediatrician I'd take that over a random on the internet

I know this post is very old but I'm wondering if you ever figured out what this was? My 2 year old has this exact thing and I'm freaking out waiting for our doctor appointment next week. Thank you!!

Hi, how is your child? I just wanted to ask. I also have a child who has something like that on his back. Is it normal to have something like that?
