Hi all my niece is babysitting my DS who is 18months next week. She is 16. She is a little nervous, she has been around him loads but not on her own. What tips shall I give her?

If she’s nervous does she definitely want to do it? It is a lot of responsibility.

If she definitely does make sure she knows how to contact you, make sure she knows basic first aid (choking would be my number one thing I think), and any particular toys he loves/hates and any nap times etc?

Yes it not for a huge amount of time, she is keen but I guess a little nervous. I am going to write out his routine.
What age did we all babysit at?

What age did we all babysit at? 11 but I grew up in a large extended family so was used to being around babies and children.

It's good practice for when she becomes a Mum, although after looking after yours, she'll probably put that off fit a few more years Grin

I was 16 when I babysat for a family friend and I had absolutely zero experience with babies! I didn't ever need to feed them though.. Would echo the point above about first aid!

Thanks for all the kind replies

I babysat for loads of people round our road from the age of 14 once the children were in bed. When I was 15, I started putting them to bed too.
I never had a moment's worry - now I would be so much more anxious!
