DS is 14 weeks old and can hold his head up, do you think it is ok to take the head support out of his car seat (maxicosi) as it makes him really hot in the car and as soon as he gets hot he screams

No.

Holding head up while stationary isn't the same as being wobbled around in a moving car.

Assuming your in the UK I wouldn't have thought excessive heat in a car should be a problem right now!

I removed my ds's head support at about 4 months as his wee noggin didn't fit in it any more! Maybe check the instructions?

i think it depends on the child, and i have known children who at 3 / 4 months old who definitlety do not need the head support and having the head support actually annoys them and makes them uncomfortable.

if you really think he doesnt need it then take it away

have you taken the wedge bit out of the bottom of the seat to give him more room?
The sponge bit slips out of one side of the black cover like a pillow out of a pillowcase, if you see what I mean.
Without it the seat is deeper so he's not rammed up against the headhugger so much.

I ahve a maxi cosi and took the head support out at around 14 weeks because it was too much of a cram and I felt it was putting pressure on his neck. I did look in the instructions but it only mentions about the wedge thingy. I put rolled up blanket in if we are in the car and he nods off.
