Best steriliser option

Which do you recommend out of microwave, electric, Milton and uv sterilisers? We used Milton with dd but slightly concerned at how frequently we had to replace her bottles because they had gone cloudy, also MiL doesn't like it and I'm basically too tired to argue Confused

We used an electric one

I use the tommee tippee electric steriliser but I hate that they’re always wet after sterilising. I think I would’ve gone with a UV steriliser if I had a choice and knew. (Was gifted the steriliser)

Not to mention having to descale so very often!

We used Milton with all ours, Inc in our last hospital for eldest. We don't really have counter space for electric, small old microwave not big enough and the bags that you sterilise in seem wasteful. No issue with cloudy bottles.

Tell MIL that it's common practice on children's wards to use Milton

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 30/06/2021 09:51

I used a steam one for dc1-3 & cold water Milton for 4 & 5. Cold water is so much easier. I've never had an issue with cloudy bottles, I've still got some now, from dc4(6), that are fine despite countless times through the dishwasher (they're useful for measuring small amounts of liquid as the ml/oz marks are still intact too).

Thank you, yes I'm wondering if the cloudiness was the bottles and not the Milton! We used Dr Brown last time and trying Mam this time. Dr Brown customer service was good though as they replaced the bottles each time.

For those who used Milton would you wait until the bottles were totally dry or just shake them dry?

Leave in the water until needed then shake. Dc5 was mainly breastfed but did have 1 bottle most days, mainly so I could cook dinner or similar Grin My bottles were MAM & as I said they're still going strong.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 30/06/2021 11:54

I used an electric/steam one

AnagramSam · 30/06/2021 12:11

Do you have the Mam microwave self sterilise bottles? The instructions show how to make them up to go in the microwave and then sterilise without any other equipment. Just in the microwave for 3 mins per bottle.
We didn’t have any kind of special steriliser or fluid with our LO. The Mam bottles are brilliant!

Cbd333 · 30/06/2021 12:16

@AnagramSam that's one of the reasons I've gone for these but I remember sterilising 6-8 bottles at a time with dd and with husband working away frequently and a 3 year old running round as well as the baby to look after not sure if individually sterilising would be a faff!

I have the old Milton box in from last time so might just get some solution so we have it in; just in case.

I'm also hoping to breast feed but it just didn't happen last time so going to try not to put so much pressure on myself this time!

My DD used bottles that could be sterilised in the microwave and a Perfect Prep machine. Took 10 minutes from start to finish to make a fresh bottle.

Soontobe60 · 30/06/2021 12:23

She also had a 2 1/2 yer old running round with DD2, and found this very convenient.
Put bottle in microwave and switch on - 20 seconds prep, 3 minutes sterilising
Get toddler sorted whilst bottle is sterilising.
Take out of microwave and put under Perfect Prep machine with powder in - 60 seconds
Wait 1 minute for bottle to be made.
Feed baby.

ElderMillennial · 30/06/2021 12:25

We just got the MAM one. It works as an electric steamer and a microwave one plus heats milk and food.

ElderMillennial · 30/06/2021 12:25

It's a 6 in 1 so maybe does something else too!

AnagramSam · 30/06/2021 15:24

@Cbd333
The Mam ones don’t need to be microwaved individually. You need to assemble each one but you’d need to do that before feeding anyway. You can microwave 6 at a time I think, so 3 mins for the first one and an extra minute for each extra bottle, so 8 mins for 6 bottles.
We would then assemble them and they stay sterile for at least 12 hours I think.
