hi guys. i’m feeling a bit all over the place, i’m sure it’s just hormones😂

i’ve been induced and had my waters broken, currently at 4cm dilated and getting excited to meet our baby boy.

he was due on the 6th of July and I read online newborns can’t regulate heat so they should go home in hats, a vest, sleep suit and a cardigan. But while i’ve been walking around trying to get dilating more, i’ve seen people taking their little ones home with no cardigan and sometimes in a short sleeved vest and trousers?

it’s left me feeling unsure on what i’m
supposed to be doing. it’s very hot and muggy at the moment and they’ve said he will be born tomorrow so it will be highs of 19° and lows of 13° with rain all day, what would you suggest bringing him
home in?

also can he wear this type of cardigan in his car seat? very nervous first time mum😅

It's really warm so I wouldn't worry about a cardi. Just a sleepsuit would probably be fine - better to be a bit cold than too hot. Car seats get warm anyone - my baby usually has a sweaty bum! Good luck and all the best for safe arrival of your baby!

It’s not really warm round me!

Yep, cardi on for me unless it’s sunny or humid

He'll be used to being inside you it inside the hospital (which will be hotter than the sun) so I would go for long sleeve sleep suit, a cardigan like that one, and a hat

No help on the outfit but just wanted to say good luck tonight! Thanks

Congrats! Just pack some layers. Baby clothes are so tiny you can take a few bits. I gave birth on the hottest day of the year a few years ago and the midwives made me put DS in a woolly hat, cardigan, socks, gloves, etc!

I was a ftm and unsure but looking back I wish I'd whipped it all off him. They kept telling me to put more layers on him while I was boiling hot in shorts and vest. Crazy.

welshweasel · 28/06/2021 21:14

A sleep suit will be fine. He won’t need a hat! You can always tuck a blanket over him. You shouldn’t use hooded tops in the car seat.

Babies should wear one more layer than what YOU have on Wink blanket counts as one layer as well. And never check their hands, check their chest/back whether they are cold or hot

Tbh babies aren't as sensitive as everyone makes you believe. They are small and delicate but generally well built. People have had babies in the desert and the snow for thousands of years

Congratulations OP!
The advice that always helps me, with newborn clothing is.... Apparently they should always be in one layer more than you in the early days. Having said that, if it's extremely hot, I'm not sure I would do that, but otherwise it's a good rule of thumb.
