Has anyone ever self-referred to SS?

If I did this what would happen?

It’s not for violence towards children or anything like that.

It depends what it’s for; would there be early help services that could help instead?

Toohardrightnow · 28/06/2021 18:47

I’m not sure - that certainly sounds less scary but I’m not sure if there’s anything like that in place here or how I would access it.

Yes of course. People self refer all the time. What sort of help are you looking for?

Toohardrightnow · 28/06/2021 18:58

I don’t even know.

I just know that I’m struggling atm and I don’t know what to do.

I almost feel I need some sort of support worker but to look at me it’s just a ridiculous notion.

That definitely sounds like early help from the little you have shared. If you Google your local authority name and early help it should show you some information and how to self-refer. Then someone will call you back to talk through the most effective form of support

Are you struggling within yourself, or with physical tasks, or with caring?
Would talking to your GP help?

PumpkinKlNG · 28/06/2021 19:08

I wouldn’t advise it. It would be a very last resort

Nextchapterofmybook · 28/06/2021 19:11

Yes I have. They weren’t much use really. Was quite a difficult situation but I had to chase them and didn’t really get ‘in the moment’ support, more a few weeks later.

Toohardrightnow · 28/06/2021 19:40

Thanks I’ll try that.

I have ADHD and everything is just getting on top of me. The house is past the point of ‘normal family mess’, for the first time ever my personal hygiene is starting to slip, cooking even a basic meals feels overwhelming.

What about a charity like Home Start? Or if you have school aged children, maybe have a chat with the Senco/ family support worker/ learning mentor type person. They might know some sources of support in your area.
