Which one would people recommend for a 3 year old? Or something else that does similar that I may not be aware of...

Thanks!

Honestly, I know about 8 people who have them (both) and they never get listened to any longer!

We have a yoto. I agree it gets a lot less use than when we first bought it. The cards are expensive and DS1 (6) listens and discards so they don’t get much replay value. He does like the podcast “yoto daily” which tells them something new and interesting each day, or just jokes sometimes, so that never gets old. I think I decided yoto had more going for it than the toniebox.

PS it gets the most use as a Bluetooth device to play music from Spotify on it at bedtime - I put a few songs on for him and he falls asleep listening. Sometimes. You can also create your own cards so in theory I should be putting his favourite songs on a card and stopping the Bluetooth thing…

An Alexa is better.
I know you didn’t ask that but the boxes don’t really do anything that an Alexa can’t do.

I’m going to disagree with all above we LOVE our yoto player and use it every day numerous times a day. I think. Depends on age and what child likes to if it would be useful for you and get use. My DS nearly 3 is book obsessed!

We got it when he was 2.5 and he listened to cards all day every day. He would take himself off and I would find him in his room listening to a card. Around the same time he wasn’t great at going to bed so used the night light function which we now don’t need but I’m sure will use again in the future.
We chose yoto over tonie as the yoto story cars are so much cheaper and they have a lot more of a wide age range in my opinion. And things like yoto radio and Bluetooth speaker I just thought it was last a lot longer and get more use than the tonie box which looked more aimed at toddlers.

I’ve also just found a Facebook group that does lots of card swaps and sells second hand cards cheaper.
I love the make your own cards as well. All our family are in Australia so have got them to record lots of stories and he loves the grandma and his aunties are reading him stories.

Will pop my discount code below for you if you decide to go ahead and would like to use it Smile

My DD7 LOVES her Yoto, and has listened to a story every night at bedtime since she got it a year ago.

sunandmoon11 · 26/06/2021 20:26

My little boy is 4 and had a yoto for Christmas.
It gets used every single night, we read him a story and then he picks a story to listen to on that and every night he falls asleep listening to it!

WhatAWasteOfOranges · 26/06/2021 20:30

We went with yoto as the stories are cheaper, it has a wider range, the cards aren’t plastic and most of the stories are read in an English, rather than American accent.
My son listens to it every single night as he falls asleep

Vodkabulary · 26/06/2021 20:32

We have a tonie on recommendations by several friends got it for our 2 yr old for Xmas it’s fantastic. Ours gets used every day

Qwertyguerty · 26/06/2021 20:57

Def Yoto!

When my DD was 2.5 she'd listen to the stories a lot, less so now a year on but we've put some of her favourite music on the blank cards and it gives her the power to play her own music whenever she likes and cos the tracks are numbered she can even choose which one she's in the mood for

She still uses it about 5 days out of 7

I'm still so happy with it!

Sparechange · 26/06/2021 21:01

We love the Tonibox

It’s really robust and has come on holidays and trips with hs, survived falling (being thrown) down stairs, dropped

The self-record figurines are brilliant as well

NoNameIdeas · 26/06/2021 21:55

Can't comment on the yoto box but our 4.5 year old has a tonie and it is amazing! We got it just before baby 2 arrived in case he needed some quiet time and can honestly say it's been used multiple times a day since. He loves it! Easy to use, portable and lots of stories to choose from. We've also just got him the headphones which are a big hit. Would definitely recommend

Both my kids have a Yoto and they love it, they both get used every day. I'm not sure how but my husband has managed to download lots of their favourite things, like Fireman Sam and Paw Patrol episodes and put them on the make your own cards. The sleepy tales is also brilliant for when my 4 year old can't settle to sleep.

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 27/06/2021 19:33

Yoto all the way! It does so much more than the Tonie anc the cards are much cheaper and easier to store. We got ours in January and it’s still used every single day, multiple times a day. Hands down the best thing I ever bought my son.

Rosebud1302 · 27/06/2021 21:11

Thanks so much everyone. I think we have decided on the Yoto :)
