Would you complain to nursery about this?

So we send my 21 month old to nursery 4 days a week. If it matters it’s an ofsted outstanding nursery.

Called for her end of day report (you call before pickup rather than chat at the door due to covid) and she’s had a fine day and soiled at 4pm so had a nappy change then. We pick up at 5. At her bedtime nappy change at 7 we noticed dried bits of poo on her vulva (you know sometimes when they have a looser bm it still gets everywhere lol). Her bum was clear so shed not had another small BM but looks like they just didn’t clean her up properly.

Im irritated by this, esp considering how much we pay, but I’d be irritated regardless and I want to bring it up to the nursery. DH thinks don’t bother.

Want to sense check am I overreacting? Would you say anything?

I’d just casually mention it so the nursery worker can check better next time. I wouldn’t do it as a complaint.

Bksjshsbbev2737 · 25/06/2021 19:58

Honestly I wouldn’t after one time but yes if it continues

There’ll always be some niggles with the way things happen at nursery but I consider this to 100% be worth raising. There’s an infection risk here as well as almost certainly that she’ll end up with nasty nappy rash if this keeps happening.

It’s an absolute basic element of care and has never happened with DD in three different childcare settings.

It's happened a couple of times with my DS. If mention it if it happened again but I wouldn't go in and complain straight away.

Sleeplessem · 25/06/2021 20:00

It’s never happened before tbf but I think I’ll mention it just in case, she’s got v sensitive skin.

Thanks for your input! Flowers

I'd it happened regularly then yes I would mention but not for a one off.

LynetteScavo · 25/06/2021 20:07

It's one of those things that you definitely mention, but don't "complain" about. If it happens there times then spake to someone more senior and insist it isn't acceptable, and you never expect it to happen again.

Sls668 · 25/06/2021 20:18

Agree with everyone else. I work in a nursery but also have a baby girl at home and sometimes I open her nappy when I have changed previously and think ‘wow, how did I miss that?!’ sometimes it just happens. Definitely mention it though just so they are aware and do make it official if it is a problem that persists

Youreacockarentyou · 25/06/2021 20:24

I’d mentioned it if it happened more than once, but I’d let it go this time.

noscoobydoodle · 25/06/2021 20:29

I'd let it go this once, raise it informally at next morning drop off if it happens again, and only formally complain if it happens again after that. I had to raise a similar issue with DD1 when she was a baby- ignored it a couple of times, mentioned it a couple of times more casually and then escalated to management. We can all slip up from time to time but it shouldn't be happening regularly.

Megan2018 · 25/06/2021 20:32

I have a 21 month old DD that goes 4 days a week too.
As a one off this wouldn’t bother me. If it happened again I would.

Emelene · 25/06/2021 20:48

I agree with PP, personally as a one off I would let go. But raise it if it happens again.

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 25/06/2021 23:03

I wouldn’t say anything if it was a one off. There’s all sorts of reasons how that could have happened (wriggly child, distracted half way through, genuine accidental oversight, rushing as multiple kids so change). However if it happens regularly, I would say something.

grey12 · 26/06/2021 08:06

I would mention definitely! I mentioned to DD nursery when her underwear was streaked so they would be more careful

Eggcellent29 · 26/06/2021 12:18

Hmmm. A tricky one!

If it is a one off, I would leave it BUT make a note of date, timings etc in case you need to bring it up.

In my experience, if you ‘mention’ rather than complain, management still have to take some sort of action. Which usually means having a go at the member of staff who did it, which SHOULD be your kid’s key worker.

If you are otherwise happy with your child’s Key Worker, I personally wouldn’t risk causing them all that upset for what is most likely a very honest error. You say your child goes 4 days a week - how many nappy changes do you think have been done during that time, and they’ve all been fine? Plus, it’s not like they can do anything to change it now, so in ‘mentioning’ you are effectively just complaining

People are human. You say about the money - completely irrelevant in this case. The Key Worker is probably on min wage or just above.

But, of course, you are entitled to complain if you feel that it is what is best.

If you're mentioning it to the keyworker directly then how would that result in management having a go?
