Worried about toddler’s teeth

Until recently my toddler (14 months) had four teeth - the two top ones and the two bottom ones at the front. I’ve noticed he now has a fifth tooth coming through at the top but it’s not next to the two front teeth - it’s like his third tooth along if counting from the front, so he’s still not got his second ones. His top two front teeth also have a big gap between them. I’m just a bit concerned as friends’ babies milk teeth seem very uniform and neat, whereas my son’s seem to be coming through quite haphazard with gaps. Should I be worried?

They come through however they want really.. my sons fangs came through first, a few days before Halloween lol! I wouldn't worry but if you are, why not pop to the dentist

DSs came through pretty randomly are the teeth straight? Most young children have a gap between the front two. He is two and a half now and has all but the very very back two but they are coming through now. His teeth are straight and even despite the haphazard way they came through

There's not much you can do about it so I would just take him along to your next dentist check up and see what they say.

DS2 has a wonky tooth on the bottom, the dentist said there's nothing to worry about and it might straighten out as he grows or he might need braces when he's older.

Thanks for replying.

I’m really worried about taking DS to the dentist - he literally bursts into floods of tears if anyone like a health visitor or doctor touches him for some reason, and then takes ages to calm down! Does anyone else’s toddler do this? I’m worried it will prevent him getting looked at properly Sad

He doesn’t actually like being touched or held by anyone he doesn’t know, but doctors etc seem to particularly upset him!

Yes the teeth are straight - just coming through in a strange order and with big gaps!

Dentists won't really do anything much at that age, he will sit on your lap and they will literally just look rather than touch. If your dentist is clever, they will talk to him and make him laugh / smile which means they can get a look at the teeth without actually having to go near him at all. They will not be expecting him to co-operate with instructions or allow things in his mouth.

DS2 is the same with doctors but doing some role play before his appointments has helped hugely :) Particularly now he's a bit older (over 2). I think it freaks them out because nobody would normally touch them in the way a doctor/HV doing measurements etc does, which is kind of fair enough. But knowing what to expect seems to really help.

Oh but actually - yes it's totally normal for the canine to come through before the second incisor.

Sorry I only just realised that was your question. It's the normal order for them to come through.
