What's your child's favourite comfort toy?

My ds is 2 and absolutely loves his soft toy sheep (named 'Sheep' - very original Smile). His great grandparents gave it to us when he was born and it became a favourite. Luckily he doesn't insist on being attached to Sheep 24/7 but he does have him in bed, when we go in the car, on the sofa etc. He tells Sheep that he loves him which is very cute. I do worry though that if we lost Sheep he'd be quite upset. I've actually looked for a replacement just in case but m&s have discontinued it and someone on ebay is selling it for £45!! Crazy, no way would I pay that.
Does your child have a go to comfort toy? Have they ever lost it?

Not my child but a little boy my Mum used to look after had a toy pig he brought everywhere (called Piggy, also very original lol), he used to swing it round by the tail & fling it across the room, did this in our living room one day & it landed in the fire!! We all held our breath, sure he would be so upset but he just looked a bit shocked, went ‘oh… Piggy’ then ran off to do something else & never mentioned Piggy again! Mum bought him a similar replacement as she felt so bad even though it wasn’t her fault, and he never even looked at it.

@CoffeeMonkey ahhhh, I love that, made me giggle. If my son did that with 'Sheep', fingers crossed he'd have a similar reaction. Smile

My DD has a blue blankie. It’s actually a full size fleecy throw that wasn’t bought for her but she adopted at some point. She’s particularly obsessed with the label that’s worn away, so utterly irreplaceable due to this!

DS has his named cars. He’ll sit and happily push them back and forth for ages. Much easier to replace (mainly) but not really cuddly - it’s his bedtime/comfort thing though.

Try the Preloved to Reloved group on Facebook - there's often someone looking for a duplicate toy and someone may have one around that their child isn't interested in. You just pay the postage to them and they send it to you

My DD had a fav toy as a toddler and I bought an identical replacement as the original went everywhere with her and was often filthy. One night the original needed a wash so waited til she was asleep, swapped them and washed and spin dried the original until it was dry, then swapped them back, at which point she stirred in her sleep and said "oh Beebee, I missed you so much" then went back to sleep. No idea of coincidence or if she really knew!

We have the Jellycat Jellyfish. He’s called Squiddly. Funnily enough I tried to do bedtime without him last night and she was having NONE of it. She does occasionally discover we have two and is quite determined to carry them both around the house with her.

My daughter was (and still is at 10yo) attached to a rather realistic rubber/plastic snake, about 15in long. It's called Slithery. It freaked a few people out!

Aaw this is cute. DS1 has a small cuddly puppy (called puppy), it’s nothing special, from card factory or similar. It is small and sort of squashy, perhaps that’s the appeal! It has changed over the years though - originally his favourite was a fluffy monster “no sty” ha ha - remembered but no longer prize place! So I think the allegiance can change without total heartbreak!
DS2 has his “nursery” soft toy “turtle”, and at home loves a cuddly Elmer the Elephant. Not to cuddle, just to know he is there. It’s lovely.

My nearly 3 year old likes muslin cloths to sleep with. She has done since she was a tiny baby. She calls it clothy and they get so manky and dirty as she takes them everywhere. When I try to replace with a clean identical version she gets so upset and won't sleep. I've learnt that it's because they come out of the wash a bit stiff, so I now sleep with one too just to soften it up, so that I can swap it with the dirty one when it's time for wash. I swear she'll still be dragging a dirty cloth around with her when she's 20!

My DS has a blue monkey comforter called Dave (my Dad named him). Dave goes everywhere, DS loves Dave.
We actually have 3 of the same Dave. When he started to get attached I bought 2 more, and I rotate them round each week so they all get the same wear out of them. I'm glad I did that as DS had really bad reflux for his first year or so, and it made it easier to clean Dave without the worry of DS being without.
The last month DS has gone from taking Dave in his bag to nursery to leaving Dave in the car as he's off to school in September. I made the mistake of forgetting to bring Dave with me last week for pickup, DS cried so much, it was like his heart was breaking.
Dave also had an accident where he ended up flying out of the car window. Luckily it was quiet road and DH was able to turn round and go back for Dave. Dave now gets attached to the car seat using a dummy clip.
I don't mind DS having Dave as I had a my own teddy growing up, she currently sits in DS's room with all his other teddies. I'm would never let DS part with Dave completely, but I'm glad he's ready to leave Dave at home when at nursery.

My DS has a bunny which is actually a muslin cloth with a bunny head on it. Regularly tells bunny 'oh I love you'. I bought another and tried to hide the fact there were two on rotation. Swapped in sleep as above. One day the two bunnies accidentally met and I was panicking that DS was about to get his first taste of life's cruel deception but he was actually delighted. We then had 'other bunny' and both had to be taken to bed for a while. I recently realised that the colourway has been discontinued so bought another two from a retailer still selling it. Hoping that will see us through?!
