Groaning in sleep - baby in pain?

Hi all, looking for advice for my 5 week old as last night was one of the worst nights for sleep that we've had so far and I don't know what to do!

She's always been quite squirmy and groany when sleeping, but in the last couple of days it's pretty much constant. She's silent if sleeping on me or DH, and as we found last night, she's comfy on top of a duvet or pillow or on her front. As soon as she's put on her back, she's squirming, wriggling her legs and looking like she's in pain. Sometimes she'll settle down and go to sleep, but keep doing this throughout the night, and most times she'll wake up crying. I've started giving her infacol in the hope that this will help in a couple of days time. Is this just reflux? Or is it CMPA or something else? She sleeps fine on her back if she's on a soft surface, so what is it about the cot mattress that she doesn't like? She's slept fine this morning in her moses basket - whenever she starts squirming I tilt it so her head is higher and she settles quicker. How can I resolve this so she can comfortably sleep in the cot at night?

My son did this from the day he was born until about 2ish weeks ago (he’s 14 weeks now). He was SO noisy at night and would constantly grunt, squirm and screw his face up. He was fine when we held him or he was in a car seat/pram. I thought he had reflux etc etc but he had no other symptoms so in hindsight I think it was just his gut developing.

Forgot to add, you could slightly elevate the head end of the mattress with a blanket to help a little

My baby also did this until about 10/11 weeks. I had assumed it was reflux etc but my doctor said its normal and is as a result of their immature digestive system. I had no idea how noisy newborn babies could be! Mine sounded like a farm animal 🙈 It was tough for a while as I’m a light sleeper and got very little sleep 😬

If she is quiet in the Moses basket do you not let her sleep in that at night ?

One of mine did this constant grunting all night. It was just a phase and by about 8 weeks it had stopped

This too shall pass. It always does, then on to the next thing Smile

My son did this and it turned out he had really bad reflux. Phone ur GP they'll give you baby gaviscon and if that doesn't work you can get a thickener to go in their milk x

Thanks all, reflux or just something to grow out of soon then! We've tried that tonight @AnyFucker but she's not going for it for some reason! Does reflux get worse at night? Her squirming seems to get worse as the day goes on Confused
