Starting School September

The school my son is attending in September does a stay and play session for 1 hour next month so you can meet teachers etc. Any idea what the parents would be doing for this hour or are we there to just watch our kids play.

I have social anxiety so get a bit nervy about these situations and mingling.

Hi,

Stay and play is just that - you stay and they play. Your child will probably want you to engage with them.
It is purely to allow you and your child to get familiar with the school building, where to hang a coat and go to the loo etc (if you are lucky enough to do this in the reception classroom).

You might also get to meet either a reception teacher or a member of support staff that will be in the reception classroom. You can ask questions if you have them or just learn the name of the staff.

An hour will go really quickly. If you are lucky you can say hello to another parent/carer or two and then there will be some familiar faces in the play ground for you on day 1.

Don't worry - most people will feel a bit anxious if it's their fist child going to school.

Exactly what Mumdiva99 says. You'll be playing with your LO, and it will go pretty quickly. Don't forget that a lot of the other parents will be doing this for the first time as well Smile

It might be worth looking at the Primary Education board as well. As September gets nearer, there'll be more and more posts about starting Primary School.
