What age for ear piercing?

My dd is desperate to get her ears pierced.

She's only 6 (almost 7), none of her friends at school seem to have it done but one friend her age that she sees at an after school club does.

My view is that she's too young but both her dad and a few of my friends that I asked can't see why not?

I've been telling her it's sorer than getting a flu jag (as an example) as she hates needles in the hope that it puts her off but she seems adamant she wants it done.

So far I'm the only one saying no and I'm willing to stand my ground, however, I was thinking IF I let her get it done, the best time would be the start of the summer holidays so that by the time she's back in school she is able to take them out on PE days (we're in Scotland and schools finish this week)

Thanks!

I think she's far too young. She needs to be responsible enough to properly care for them while they heal, and she is not.

It's ok to say no, op. She may be disappointed but she will get over it.

I got my DDs done the summer she turned 9 (originally said 10 but she'd begged relentlessly since she was 6 and I gave in). She's looked after them beautifully. DSD had hers done at 7 and they got infected and had to be taken out. Then got them redone at 9 and same thing happened. I would wait til you're confident she will take good care of them as it's not cheap. Oh, and don't go to Claires!

Thanks @Aquamarine1029 I'm quite happy to say no, I'm used to being the unpopular one 😂

I just wanted to check i wasn't being unreasonable!

Thanks @ShinyGreenElephant that's a good point! I've never had any problems with mine but I was a teen so hadn't really thought of that happening.

I was more worried about 1) the actual pain of her getting it done, and 2) how it would look at her age

On mumsnet anything younger than 25is not acceptable (ok I exadurate a little) in real life most people I know somewhere between 6 -10. Start of the summer hols is a great time, they will be healed enough to remove for school or sports should you need to.

Not in primary ideally.

I wasn't allowed them done in primary. My mum made me wait until I was 11 and I had just left primary 7.
