Can a 8 month old have tantrums?

My 8.5 month old is typically a lovely, chatty, happy baby. In the last two weeks, she has started having what I can only describe as tantrums! If she has something that she shouldn't and I take it off her, she absolutely freaks. E.g. if she's grabbed my phone and I take it away from her, she screams and cries but it's very clearly because she wants my phone and not for any other reason. The scream is different from her usual scream (ha) as well - it's much more angry and high pitched. She's easily distracted and calms quickly but I thought it would be a bit early for tantrums to develop?

Any insight would be great!

She is expressing dissatisfaction the only way she has at her disposal. Of course she’s annoyed that you have taken something away that she was interested in. Yes there is a continuum of expressing emotion and learning how to regulate emotions, but this is nothing like a tantrum from a 2/3yo.

Yes but not in any way that’s meaningful. She can’t use words so screaming and crying is an expression.
Just ignore it and distract her

No, that’s too young for a tantrum imho. Yes she is upset but at that age they have no filter and no way to even recognise their emotions. The reason we say 2-3yr olds have tantrums is by that age they CAN recognise their emotions and actively start to filter and moderate their reactions. Any actual control over emotions usually takes until around age 7-10.
