Silent reflux/CMPA help

My DD is 11 weeks old and is showing all the signs of silent reflux. My DS had severe reflux and was under consultant care and on omeprazole until he was just over 1. He's two and and a half now and still suffers with it so hasn't grown out of it like we kept being advised he would. It's making me think it could be due to some kind of allergy or intolerance instead so I want to start investigating this. I've read lots of people on here saying their baby had reflux due to CMPA so I want to test for this with my DD before considering any medication. I'm mostly breastfeeding with the occasional Formula top up so plan to trial this by going dairy free myself and using hypoallergenic formula for a few weeks. I've read lots of people saying that their little one has CMPA and is on neocate and omeprazole. I'm confused though as if the reflux is caused by CMPA then surely removing dairy from the diet should solve the reflux and they wouldn't need omeprazole as well? Or have I misunderstood something? Any advice is appreciated as it's so hard having babies with reflux and feeling so helpless to help!

Dairy free formula is often very thin so reflux is more likely. Reflux to some extend can also be developmental and then it’s made worse by the thin milk. Neonate isn’t free of cow’s milk protein it’s just broken done. Before going on a specialist formula you need to speak to your GP or a paediatrician or a paediatric dietitian.

50% of babies with CMPA are also allergic to soya.

The formula tends to be super thin when it's dairy free. Don't be put off by Soya based milks - there was data years ago about hormones that has since been debunked.
My two thrived on neocate in the end, and we used a milk thickener to ward off reflux which you can buy over the counter to try.

My breastfed dc had cmpa, I had to cut out all traces of dairy, breads, crisps etc but the real improvement came when I completely stopped soya as well, although it's a tough one as it is in everything! Some children are fine with it but it has the same protein makeup as dairy so be aware of that.

If you do get referred to a dietician, the first thing they will tell you to do is completely cut out dairy to see if symptoms improve then they will get you to reintroduce a little to see if your child reacts. If you felt comfortable you could do that yourself to rule it out?

And about the reflux meds, once I had all of this under control my dc reflux stopped and was great healthwise, sleeping, everything improved.
Really hope you figure it out, whatever it is, it's so tough having a sick baby!
