What do you do with your baby?

I’m awfully bored and don’t know what to do with my just turned 5 month old. He loves a bit of tv and we also play. What can I do make things more fun for both of us? We can’t go out when it’s hot as he breaks out in a horrible heat rash all over and itches his skin as he’s possessed.

So what activities do you do with your baby?

Brew for you OP!

Mine is 6 months old and we do a bit of the following:

  • Read books
  • Play with his treasure basket (highly recommend this, keeps him occupied for ages)
  • paddling pool
  • sensory play (I use spaghetti / yoghurt etc so you may want to hold off til you’re ready to wean for those ones)
  • rolling a ball back and forth
  • tummy time
  • stick him in the sling and chat to him while I do housework
  • songs / nursery rhymes
  • bubbles

If you can get out for a walk it helps a lot I find - would he tolerate it better in the morning or evening when it’s cooler? Or even get out in a shady part of the garden. Fresh air helps my baby sleep better I find.

Haha possessed..that made me laugh!

I need some ideas too. Still avoiding baby classes because of covid but feel like my baby is so bored at home

Mine is a bit older at 10 months and we go to every baby group going basically.

At 5/ 6 months we did a lot of playing with musical instruments/ banging pans etc. I made some sensory bottles with empty water bottles filled with different things- she was never too impressed by those though. Sensory scarves and playing peekaboo were good (muslin would do the job just as well). She still lover her foil blanket and was really into those light up flashy ball things you get in bargain type shops or they're on amazon - wed make a tent with the foil blanket over the play gym then put all the flashy balls and a flashing wand thing we had underneath. She used to love a bath so we'd do that at random points in the middle of the day if all else failed. And loads of walks - she always slept better outside - whenever the temperature allows.

I also put together little treasure baskets as a pp mentioned - cant remember what age she got into them - I'd do different textures or do a basket of lots of shiny things or do things of all one colour etc.

Has the gp advised about his heat rash- might piriton help?

‘As he’s possessed’ had made me laugh so much 😂😂
Have you got any sensory toys like musical instruments (maracas, something with bells on), different materials for him to touch, brightly coloured ribbons, bubbles.
Books are still great even though he will have no idea what you’re actually saying!
Give him things he can happily bang together like plastic tubs (my 6 month old sons new favourite game is bashing the drinks coasters together 🤷‍♀️)

Have you got some baby classes around you? They are really fun. Take baby to a farm or zoo? Water and sand play?
