What did you spend a fortune on your baby hated?

I keep hoping my ds will enjoy the Move With Me swingy chair (£130!) but it is not happening! Grin

I don’t know whether to resell or see if a potential subsequent baby would enjoy it.

Cot and next2me. Co-slept with son til he was 2 and he went into a single bed. 9 month old daughter the same and looking like she'll be in with us for the forseeable, too.

GreenCrayon · 18/06/2021 11:23

The sling. OK it wasn't extortionate but I did try a few and he hated all of them.

Everyone always recommends them as some sort of miracle cure for fussy babies or those with colic that won't be out down of which DS ticked all the boxes but he hated them and screamed even more once in it.

Bluntness100 · 18/06/2021 11:26

Pram, total and utter waste of money. Car seat carrier and buggy was where it was at.

Thankfully nothing but my nephew hated everything except human arms 😂

toastjam · 18/06/2021 11:28

Someone bought my newborn designer jeans! Jeans!

toffeebutterpopcorn · 18/06/2021 11:30

It a fortune - it enough - but those baby grow bags. He screamed the place down.

I love slings, but not all babies do. Ds loved it but I had to be on the move, so I did a LOT of steps when he was tiny!

I would always recommend to buy baby stuff second hand!

Topseyt · 18/06/2021 11:34

A sling. Useless, and both of us hated it.

People wax lyrical about them in here, but not all babies or parents can take to them.

Honestly it didn't matter if I was moving slowly, quickly or not at all he hated it. Which was made all the more annoying as I walk everywhere and hated having to lug the buggy out for every trip.

Thank goodness others had a similar experience. Honestly everyone is so evangelical about them I started to think I was doing something wrong. Grin

New2020 · 18/06/2021 11:40

@toffeebutterpopcorn 🤣 jeans!!!

Luckily we got a lot of hand me downs. One of them was a baby bjorn sling but never used it due to a long time recovering from csection

I was adamant for some reason that we really needed the sleepyhead...have barely used it but thought it would be handy to take with me to my mums for baby to sleep on..didnt happen as we were still in lockdown

HelloBunny · 18/06/2021 11:40

The cot. Hadn’t planned to co-sleep, but DS wanted to get in with us on his very first night home. He was in a basket next to me, until he was big enough to share (8 weeks) with one of us (mostly me).
I didn’t actually buy anything for my baby, apart from a few vests when he was born. Lockdown meant that all of my friends were clearing out their baby gear. I had my baby much later than them, so handy!

Hallyup6 · 18/06/2021 11:42

@Tibtab

I spent £200 on reusable nappies for my DD, she hated them - would cry when I put them on her. Switched back to disposables.
God yes, reusable nappies. Not so much that my baby hated them but that I hated them! The only ones I could find that didn't feel wet to touch, leaked all over the bloody place. I spent hours looking for pretty designs and trying loads of brands, but they were all rubbish. Went back to Lidl's own disposables after spending hundreds!
ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 18/06/2021 11:42

nothing!!
I don't see the point of spending a fortune on baby stuff. so much of what we had was secondhand given or bought.
even my double pushchair was 60% off original price, bought it barely used.

the only thing I can think of is inexpensive potties. bought 3 (upstairs, downstairs, grandma's house).
DS1 used it twice then just wouldn't use it.
DS2's bottom got stuck in it on first try and he was absolutely mortified of it so that was that.
I never even bothered with the other 5, just waited a bit longer then toilet trained them instead (Baby Bjorn toilet seat was one our the best investments!).

lavenderandwisteria · 18/06/2021 11:44

I’ve waited a long time for this baby, I feel precisely no guilt about buying him the world even if he doesn’t want it Grin

ineedaholidayandwine · 18/06/2021 11:45

Bassinet part of the pushchair, didn't come with it as standard, i bought it separate which was hard to come by due to it being a lesser know brand in the UK, she HATED it, should have just kept her in the car seat or carrier.

daisyjgrey · 18/06/2021 11:46

Cot. She slept in it once for about 4 hours.

I've paid less for a hotel room for a night.

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 18/06/2021 11:49

With DC1, the fucking Bugaboo. I had my pram chosen before I was even pregnant, he wasn't entertaining any of it. Grin Tbf we started using it a bit around his first birthday so he still had a good two years out of it, but new motherhood did not look like I'd pictured it whilst twirling the John Lewis pram floor.
Also the moses basket - this was a 'just in case' gift from my mother, I'd already decided I was bedsharing. It was useful for carting my pile of pillows for breastfeeding around in the early weeks, but that was it.

DC2 - my mother again bought a 'just in case' moses basket and I rolled my eyes but actually it turned out she was onto something - DD napped in it sometimes and started the night in it for a time. I actually can't remember anything wasted on DC2 - I bought less for her, and later (eg I didn't buy a pram at all until I'd seen that she was happy to be put down for a bit sometimes).

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 18/06/2021 11:53

@burritofan

🤣🤣🤣
mine used to want to play with the following: tv control & batteries inside, keys (only actual keys we'd use. even unused real ones wouldn't do), corkscrew, tape measure, shoelaces & velcro, purses (and yes to credit cards etc), tampons, lipsticks, loo brush, tins, hoover cord & wind button etc.

so basically everything they couldn't. so glad we've progressed to "2 ciders, no more"🤣

Soubriquet · 18/06/2021 11:54

Jumperoo…loved his swing though

Dd liked everything Grin. She was an easy baby.

JeanClaudeVanDammit · 18/06/2021 11:55

All inward facing carriers. Hated them all until she was old enough to face outwards or go on my back. No snuggling in to sleep on my chest, she’s been nosy from birth.

Soubriquet · 18/06/2021 11:57

Ah reading this thread reminded me of the flushing (sound) and singing potty I had for dd.

She didn’t like that….she actually preferred the £4 one I bought from wilko as a travel potty. So got rid of the £30 one and kept the cheaper one. She also liked her toilet seat and steps which I bought for her once she outgrew the potty

ProfYaffle · 18/06/2021 11:58

Amby hammock. Dd2 hated it, much preferred the bog standard moses basket.

stealthbanana · 18/06/2021 12:02

Sleepyhead deluxe. Both of mine absolutely loathed it. I think I used it a couple of times as a place to put them down while I was showering. Biggest waste of money ever.

Getawriggleon · 18/06/2021 12:34

DD hated lots of things, kept them all in the loft and DS likes everything! Or I'm too exhausted running around after two of them to really care if he has a grumble every time he gets plonked in the jumperoo!

We did spend a fortune on stair gates, took them off to decorate and didn't put them back up so that was good planning.
