Would you let a 2 year old take a 5p coin to bed?

I'm thinking not, because it's a choking hazard. I'm not being paranoid, am I?

(Am obsessed with choking hazards.... am I also right to not let my one year old play with silver foil for the same reason?)

Thanks!

I wouldn't let my 2 yeard old take a 5p to bed and I also wouldn't let my 1 year old play with silver foil
But maybe we are both far too paranoid

emkana · 21/11/2007 10:38

I wouldn't do either of those things either. Not paranoid IMO.

runnyhabbit · 21/11/2007 10:38

Lol - ds2 is fascinated by money (have found quite a bit in his pockets

I usually have to prise it out of his fingers, while distracting him with a story

But no, def would not let him keep it with him in bed

No. Dd is still a fiend for putting little choky things in her mouth at four and despite knowing why it's dangerous.
5p/2 year old - not paranoid.
But I bet it is love...it was twigs with ds so messy rather than hazardous

HairyIrene · 21/11/2007 10:39

no, not paranoid kathy very sensible i say
and silver foil i'd be careful
ds stuck silver foil from wrapped biscuit up his nose recently (on the way to a&e it came down thank the lord)
he's a dedicated nose picker

you are right to be vigilant on these things

Kathyis6incheshigh · 21/11/2007 10:41

OK, what about a 2p or a 10p or a 50p?
(Am thinking maybe I can replace it with one too big to fit if she remembers it tonight.)

5p is too small - even if didn't choke kids do swallow small coins.

Would some large 'play' money suffice? or are you going to have to replace 5p with £2?!

mistlethrush · 21/11/2007 10:42

No, not paranoid.

I have a piggybank for ds and if he finds a coin we put it in that - great way of doing it so that I don't have to 'prise' it out of his fingers. Piggy bank kept out of the way, and not easy to open either!

Marina · 21/11/2007 10:42

£2 coin. Look, silver and gold

lucykate · 21/11/2007 10:43

no, i swallowed a coin when i was 4 and very nearly chocked to death as it got stuck. my mum saved my life

Kathyis6incheshigh · 21/11/2007 10:45

Fab idea about piggybank Mistlethrush - I think she would go for that!

£2 coins are very appealing.

thanks all.

No.

Why on earth would you let a child take money to bed? What is wrong with a teddy?

EricL · 21/11/2007 11:05

No. You have to think about the worst case scenario with someone that small.

If you think there is a small chance that a toddler will do something silly - then a few minutes of crying/complaining is worth it.

SpawnChorus · 21/11/2007 11:07

Oh dear...I've let DD go to bed with a 20p before. Would probably have let her have a 5p if she'd wanted it. She doesn't ever put them in her mouth though...just clutches them in her sweaty little palm.

NomDePlume · 21/11/2007 11:16

No, 5p far too small.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 21/11/2007 11:33

LOL Nab3 - you'll have to ask her that.
It was not my idea.....

i wouldnt do either of those things. its not being paranoid, its being sensible.

elliemac · 21/11/2007 11:41

Why on earth would you have to even ask about that? No No No!!!!

GroovyChic · 21/11/2007 11:43

DS is also facinated by money. He doesn't put it in his mouth but I still wouldn't allow him to take coins in to bed.

pyjamagirl · 21/11/2007 11:45

no never ever ever ,good idea about piggybank though

anniebear · 21/11/2007 14:36

I wouldnt let my 6 year olds take any money to bed !!

louii · 21/11/2007 14:38

Yuk never mind the choking hazard, the dirt of money, you wouldn't know where it had been previously.
