My ds has recently been waking up every morning with a big scratch on his nose where he's rubbing his face in his sleep. I've previously not had a problem with this as he's been wearing sleepsuits with the in built scratch mitts. However due to the recent hot weather he's been sleeping in just a vest. I've been frantically trying to cut and file his nails everyday to prevent the scratches but whatever I do doesn't seem to be working 😩 I've been using baby scissors to cut his nails then filing any sharp bits with a baby nail file. It's very difficult to get him to stay still while he's awake, although I've found singing to him helps. Failing that I've been trying while he's asleep but it does quite often stir him! I honestly thought I'd managed to get them really short and not sharp yesterday but this morning he's woken up with a nasty scratch down the middle of his nose again! Anyone got any tips or tricks? I feel like such an incompetent mum. His poor little face looks like he's had a few rounds with a cat 😢

Oh bless you! Don’t beat yourself up - sounds like you’re doing what you can.
Would putting socks on his hands work?

Ah op please don’t stress honestly! They all get little scratches now and then!
Have you tried a baby nail file?

If it’s only recented started it may be due to hayfever with the super hot weather and pollen - they tend to get itchy nose, eyes and mouth. Keeping him away from triggers such as pollen (they can enter through windows too so perhaps keep the door open with a window open in another room), dust (including from fans), etc. Hope this helps.

@LemonLemonLemon socks is a great idea! I'll give that a go tonight. You don't think he'll be too hit with socks on his hands?

Mittens and socks became choking hazards in the year between my first and second dc! But you can get baby gros with sleeves that fold over

I used scratch sleeves for my DD once she could move and would take the mittens/socks of her hands.

Then we progressed to using plasters.

@Moonshine11 thanks! I know I'm probably being silly stressing! I've tried my own glass nail file this morning (not sure if this is frowned upon) which seems more effective than the baby one! Hoping I've got them nice and short and smooth now! ☺️
