When did your colic baby peak and get past it?

My baby is 5 and a half weeks and has colic. His screaming is intense and has got worse this week.

I keep reading it peaks at 6 weeks and will be gone by 12 but it's so so hard to believe!

He's very windy and hates being on his back or even put down for long. I'm using infacol, comfort formula and colief.

Anyway just want to know what your experiences were of colic peaking and eventually going away??

We are all extremely tired and my toddler I has lost the plot.

Thanks 😊

10/12 weeks of the witching hour screaming. Although looking back a bit of it could've been over tired. Second baby I made sure he didn't go more than two hours without a nap throughout the day and the evenings were much better.

Keep going! It will stop!

Have you got a partner to do a sling evening walk. Mine was luckily a summer baby and my poor husband walked and walked with him screaming in the evening. Then we transferred to bed when he got back.

Is it definitely Colic OP? Has he been check for tongue tie and does he have any symptoms of CMPA?

I don’t remember it peaking with both of mine - but it had stopped by 12 weeks both times. Colief and dr browns bottles I think helped with DS2 .
You will get through it.

My first baby had terrible colic that stopped completely when he was exactly 10 weeks old.

Massive improvement by around 8-10 weeks for us and gone by about 12.

I remember the horror of it well. All we could do was take it in turns to walk around with her in a sling for hours every evening. It was exhausting - but it did end!

My daughter had awful colic and screamed from about 5pm to midnight every night. It was horrendous but did significantly improve at about 6/7 weeks. I found dentinox good, and bouncing on a yoga ball seemed to help too!

Exactly 12 weeks to the day. Like magic. I think I wept with relief.

5 months. Stopped when he could crawl. We tried everything. One of the reasons he's an only, quite frankly.

Until 16 weeks. It was CMPA as far as we could tell. Allergy was confirmed later. It was traumatic and felt like forever at the time! Good luck.

How are you getting on now @Mazzatron?

AliceW89 · 17/06/2021 18:02

God, get shivers thinking about the colic days. Could time your watch by my DS. 16:30 exactly. If we were lucky he stopped screaming by 18:30, sometimes it went on until 23:00. You have my utmost sympathy. Just asked my husband and he reckons it was at its absolute worse from weeks 5-8, disappearing by about 11 or 12 weeks and fully gone by maybe 14 weeks.

We used to take it in turns to put DS in the stretchy sling and just walk around outside with loud music/a podcast on to drown him out. It was spring/summer which was handy. Sometimes it stopped the screaming and if it didn’t at least one of us got some fresh air/good tunes while the other rested x

@BunnyRuddington thanks.

He had his tongue tie snipped at 1 week.. we saw the GP yesterday and she thinks he's got a bit of silent reflux and colic going on.

We've had some wild evenings of screaming from 5-10:30 and a few slightly more settled ones. He cries a lot in the day too but also has started smiling at least. It's very hard especially on my toddler as I can't put this baby down.

Sling walks soothe him the most and are best to get him out the house and stop him waking my toddler but unfortunately a week of rain is forecast now.

Sad to say I'm wishing away the weeks in the hope this all gets better with age!

@AliceW89 thank you for your reply. It sounds very similar to our situation. The sling has been our saviour! We are 11 weeks today and it's starting to ease off but been a bumpy few days. The heatwave didn't help!

What an incredibly stressful time. Got a sassy toddler too who's experiencing bad sleep regression since his little bro arrived.

Tired. Hope you are all well!

We had more of a witching hour (4-6pm) and it lasted until about 12/13 weeks. I have always found being in motion between those times helped a lot so I would generally wear her in the sling then. You will get through it I promise!
