Sleep training 16 month old

I hit my breaking point last night with DS and his sleep. He's literally taking 2 hours of me sitting next to his cot patting hos bum to fall off on am evening then 10 minutes or so of patting at every wake up. He wakes every 90 ish minutes throughout the WHOLE night 😭

I'm on my knees with the lack of sleep and poor DS is so miserable most of the time because he's clearly knackered too.

Tonight I did controlled crying at bedtime and it wasn't as hideous as it could have been but he's already woken up and I don't know what to do. Do I do the exact same as I did at bedtime? Do I comfort him as normal?

Sorry! I just need someone a bit removed from the situation to tell me what to do right now.

Yeah so Dd was born October 2018 and I was broke. Into sleep training January 2020. So about the same age.

I did Ferber. So I think it was 3, 5, 7, 10. Night one. Would have to double check. When they wake you stay on the 10 that night.

Night one was tough. But what I can say is that for her, it only took one night. Within a week naps were also sorted. We went from cranky, tired, pale and grumpy to a bubbly, happy little girl.

I was just sad I had not tried something sooner.

For me, I learnt the difference between her raging cry and her distressed cry. She was raging.

Now if unwell or something wrong it's very different and I obviously go in.

Thank you, it's the time when he wakes I'm stressed over but 10 makes sense.

Can't believe it only took you a day, that would be amazing but I'm expecting at least 3 days

I second the Ferber method. It's 3, 5, 10, 10 and it took one night to crack my babe. It was one hideous night but it was worth it. You have to be prepared to follow that same method tho for any wake up and also nap times if they're a problem too.
Really hope you can get some rest xxx

What is it, you leave them to cry for that amount of minutes ? Or just leave the room hoping they don't cry?

BarbiesWorld · 11/06/2021 05:48

So I Ferber methoded it and he did 4 wake ups between bed and 11 but then he slept 11.15 to 4.30 which is the longest he's ever slept in one block.

Hopefully we can focus on morning get up when overnights have improved..

Great OP, that's a good start. Just have to see how next few nights go. Dd was earlier wakening to start but strangely started to sleep more once she was sleeping better.
