At what age would you move your baby from a next to me cot to its crib in its own bedroom? (Bedroom is next door to our room) baby's bedroom has camera & sound monitor in there

I was thinking around 5 months? But I am a first time mum and would like all the advise I can get :)

My DD went in her cot at around 5 months. To transition her we would put her in her cot for day naps. She was formula fed so it was much easier during the night in that respect but she slept through. It was lovely to start feeling human again and not sleep deprived lol.

NHS / safe sleep advice is that babies should sleep in the same room as you until they are 6 months old, to reduce the risk of SIDS. I would therefore keep her in with you until then.

If you have space for the cot in your room you could put it in and have her sleep in there for a while so she gets used to the cot but is still in your room. That may make the transition into her own room easier when the time comes.

'best practice' in terms of SIDS is actually to keep them in the same room as you til one, but definitely six months. I think its usually easier too, as its much quicker if you need to settle in the night.

I wouldn't do it before six months, but so many people seem to think thats when you 'should' do it - if she's too big for the next to me, maybe put the big cot in your room and see if it makes sense to leave it there. Otherwise ideally someone should be sleeping in her own room with her until 6 months.

I put the big cot in my room from 6 months (reluctantly) but I'm happy I did. In terms if SIDS yes cinderellasbelly is right, 1 year is best. At 6 months I felt DC was still too tiny to be in a separate room although it's permitted. The cot in the room ended up being very practical too when DC got bigger, there would be screams if I was out of sight. Put DC in cot with some toys while I got myself ready.
