Cream / moisturiser for babies

What cream / moisturiser do you use for your baby’s face? My DS has really dry skin and it flakes off. He’s just over 4 weeks. I use Aveeno on my toddler, don’t know if I should use it on him too? Is there anything better? TIA Smile

I use Aveeno on my baby. It has worked better than E45 keeping her eczema at bay.

For face I usually use Neil’s Yard Organic Baby Balm. It’s amazing, makes the skin nice and soft and you only need a smallest amount.

Thank you! Will start using aveeno on his face. I think I will try the Neil’s Yard Organic baby balm too.

Oilatum junior is great for sensitive baby skin.

Our midwife said not to use any creams at all whilst they are so young. She recommended sunflower oil and have been using that and it seems to have cleared up.

@Grognonne I was thinking this too that’s why I asked. I thought maybe he’s too young to use anything yet?
I remember when my toddler was a couple weeks old, my HV said to use coconut oil?

Yes, I think that’s fine too. They did say that sunflower or olive was least likely to cause allergies.

Is it standard aveeno baby? That has perfume in it. Stay clear of anything with perfume.
I've been through this with DC. Dermatologist recommends vaseline for the first 7 days, but that only works as a barrier so it's good if it's saliva or food related dry skin to prevent it getting worse. It doesn't often clear it but you could try that. After 7 days move onto an emollient like Epiderm, Cetraben something like that to get the skin hydrated again. They work really well and are gentle for very sensitive/eczema prone skin. My baby did eventually get steroid creams for one area but emollients have cleared the dry skin everywhere else.

I would contact your GP. They tend to be best for dealing with this kind of thing.

If you think it's eczema, which is sounds like it could be, there is a cream called Aquamax. I buy it on Amazon, but bigger Boots might also have it. It's unscented and very good.

Child's farm is good for sensitive skin, I have never had any problems using the range on my little boy and I have used it from birth

Careful with the aveeno. Apparently you shouldn't use it until oats are part of your child's diet. This is what a paediatric dermatologist told me.

My DD was prescribed oilatum junior for eczema, by the way, that's why I use it.
