Is it teething...or should I go to GP?

Hi my 16 week old daughter has been crying inconsolably this morning ...she was fine at first and slept relatively well...bit then a sort of 'ow' in pain and slightly emotional cry. Not hungry not needed ingredients a change. She has been drooling loads and hands in mouth. But that's been going on for about a month. I gave her some calpol and put her down for a nap which she eventually did after about 15 mins or crying. Is there any way I can tell for sure if teething? Should I take her to the docs or just keep plying her with calpom if it works? Will see how she is when she wakes up...its the first time my first baby has been like this so I'm not sure what to do. Thank you

With clean hands have a little feel around the gums. You can usually see if it is red or hard and sometimes feel the tooth. All the signs sound like teething but you know your baby best. So if you feel something isn't right or are ever in doubt don't hesitate to get her seen c

Has she got a temp? If so then probably not just her teething.

No Dr minds seeing a small baby.

Teething can be mistaken for earache. Is she tugging at her ear?

Could she just be too warm, it's very muggy here? Have you taken her temperature? (ear infections usually come with a high temp).

Have you checked her toes? Made sure there's no hair wrapped round one?

Sometimes you just have to follow your gut. If you're not happy, take her to the doctors. Better to be safe.

Ps. It's horrible when they're not right. Hope she's right as rain soon! Flowers

If your are not sure take her to the GP, ear infections are really common in babies. I took mine yesterday for being a bit off and pulling at her ear, she has a chest infection.

Thanks so much all for the really fast messages! I took her temp and it was fine although she did feel a bit warm to me. Take it again when she wakes up and see how she is after a nap and calpol. I can def feel teeth under the gums but were they always there? I can't say I'd ever felt her gums like that before?
Thanks i did check the toes for hairs already! My hairs falling out so much I thought that might be it!
Thank you thank you I think ill see how she is and then if no improvement will call the GP...I always feel guilty taking up appointments but I suppose that's what the NHS is for! Thanks all

Don't feel guilty for having your baby seen!
Does she still have lots of wet and dirty nappies and feeding okay?

My DS was a trooper through teething but just as they were about to cut through was his worse stage for him. He'd be grouchy for a couple of days and that's when I knew the tooth was cutting through the gum.

Lay off the calpol just to see if she does have a temperature. Calpol can mask things so see if she does have a temp. We use teetha granules which are great. Not sure what age they're from though!

Thanks very much I she's still asleep so will see how she is when she's up but I think I'll call the GP and see if we can get an appointment. Just not sitting right with me. Also I thought teething was more like 6 months- she is 4 months next week so it's pretty early if it is. I think to save my brain from anxiety I'll call the docs! Thank you all so much

@PixieDust28 yea she's a good feeder and lots of wet nappies and poo I think is normal maybe 2 a day...but she recently went 48 hours without and then did 5 in one day? I don't know if that could be related will call the docs when they open at 9 x

I was talking to my mum about my son teething the other day and she said my sister and I both had loose bowels when teething.

I hope your daughter feels much better soon!
