Worried about baby sleeping at nursery

My baby will be 9/10 months when she goes into nursery. At the moment she has to nap in the dark, with her lullaby playing and being rocked for a short while.

The nursery we want her to go to doesn't have a separate sleep room. They get the baby to sleep either in a cot or bouncer that is actually in the baby room, so baby will be sleeping in light with other babies playing around her.

I'm really worried my baby just won't nap at nursery. Has anyone had any experience with this and found that their babies still sleep well? I know when she goes to the next room up it'll be mats on floor and lights dimmed, which I don't think will be an issue, it's just the baby room that concerns me.

Also did you start to get baby used to noisier and lighter environments during nap time to get the prepared for nursery?

@IDontDrinkTea

Weird magic happens at nursery. Somehow they manage to get a whole room of babies to sleep at the same time in a bright noisy environment, with none of the things that make these kids sleep at home. I honestly wouldn’t worry about it, they’ll manage
This!

I'm a nursery nurse. It's true, we do have magic powers.

I worked in a baby room for years and have never come across a baby who didn't sleep. Some wouldn't sleep for as long as they would at home, or would sleep at different times. We might have to use a buggy or bouncer, pat their back or stoke their hair, rock them in our arms. We have plenty of things to try and always get there in the end. Often when parents say there's no way their baby will sleep for us, the baby ends up just settling themselves in a cot with no trouble at all 😆

Another nursery nurse, baby room for the last 5 years, I promise she will sleep, maybe a rocky week or so but she will, most nurseries have evacuation cots on wheels, these rock beautifully Grin we will rock, feed, sing, stroke, cuddle, whatever it takes. There's also a bit of competative baby whispering!
Soon the staff will just put the mats out, we put each childs photo on the end and they will go and find their own, 25 children asleep in 15 mins....no problem Smile

Agree with everyone saying nursery nurses can work magic. My son has always had trouble sleeping. Oh how I laughed when they told me if he needed to nap they bring out mats in the middle of the toddler room. 2 months ago he started nursery and he's napped no trouble at all every single day he's been there.

Both of mine would only nap whilst being held in arms. Childminder got them to nap in a cot every day. Was never able to replicate it at home! Childcare providers have magic powers.

I don’t know what witchcraft my DD’s nursery use but she puts herself to sleep there. They have a little sleepy corner with floor beds and she goes and naps there. She does not do this at home! I was dreading it because when she started I could only get her napping when in the pushchair but today she apparently napped for 2 and a half hours!

Nursery voodoo magic they get babies to sleep in their own way but the important thing is baby sleeps, mine in much better at night after staring nursery .

Mine naps at nursery but doesn’t at home. Don’t worry about this they will soon get into a routine

Mine self settles in her cot brilliantly at home but refuses to sleep in the cots or little baskets at nursery, apparently she cries as soon as they go in the sleep room. They are very sweet and they just cuddle her to sleep.
