Colostrum to milk - Am I late ?

My newborn is 6 days old and I still don’t have “proper” milk. Everyone was telling me that my breasts will go really hard and I will know when the transition happen but I felt nothing like that. My colostrum/milk is now white/orange kind of colour but I’m still only getting about 20 ml each time I breast pump and my boobs are soft.
My baby is on mixed feeding plan due to jaundice, maybe that has something to do with that? She’s very sleepy and maybe not feeding like a “normal” newborn would ?

Sorry to hear you're having some problems. Best to ask your midwife or health visitor. FWIW I don't think I noticed a distinct transition. It must have happened but I wasn't aware. And I've heard pumping doesn't reflect how much baby can be getting from suckling (although are you doing all feeds from a bottle?) Feeding a sleepy baby is really tough. It's possible your supply isn't getting stimulated as much due to this but I would ask health professional.

It can happen this way, that's what happened with DS2, we were mixed feeding from the start as well. I did go on to get a full supply but it took longer than expected. Don't panic, it's definitely within the realms of normal particularly when breastfeeding has got off to a slower start.

Keep pushing for support to increase your supply. Support to phase out the top ups (it will take a few weeks). You don't always automatically get this. Also join every breastfeeding support group, page, expert etc you can find to try and flood yourself with useful info!

I did skin to skin/kangaroo care for an hour every morning in hospital. While doing the morning change I only put his new nappy on. Then I brought him into bed, laid him on my chest, blankets over both of us to keep him warm and just did that for an hour. I don't think he ever latched on that way but if you have a half reclined bed or chair you can try to latch him using biological nurturing. But it's useful just to do it.

Lucy Ruddle has two books which will be useful to you. Mixed up which is about mixed feeding and relactation which is about increasing milk supply.

Are you feeding/pumping at least every 3 hours from the start of feeding?

Keeping putting the baby to your breast regularly.

DD2 was really sleep and the midwife said not to hold her unless she was feeding because she was getting too comfy and just sleeping rather than waking to feed.
