Baby weaning - steamer/blender?

Hi
DS is 2 months old and I'm looking at what I will need when he gets to the weaning stage and hoping some experienced mums who have done it before could share their experiences

First question.. is there anything you highly recommend? Any absolute must-haves and lifesavers?

Second question.. is the tommee tippee food maker (steamer/blender or similar products) worth it or is it no easier than steaming on the stove and blending in a regular blender?

We can see this thread is quite old now, but if you’ve landed here looking for suggestions and guidance, we’ve recently refreshed our best baby food maker page with plenty of high-quality options recommended by real parents. We hope you find it useful.

I just gave my babies finger foods of what we were having, and cooked with less salt. Neither of them liked purées, and both refused spoon feeding.

I wouldn’t recommend the steak blenders - I had the avant one and not the tommee tippee but it was rubbish and didn’t use it for me second.
I assume if you’re thinking of a blender you’re not doing baby led. I’d advise reducing salt in whatever meals you make and freezing potions for your baby. You can blend them or keep them chunky for later.
Don’t get the weaning pots - just get a load of cheap small tupperware does the same job for a fraction of the price.
I cooked a lot of soups for all of us that worked well for weaning. Made thicker soup for easy spoon feeding / dipping pitta in but I like it thicker anyway

Really recommend the book "how to wean your baby" by Charlotte Stirling Reid

Didn't buy any special equipment other than a high chair, plates/cups, bibs and floor covering. I didn't do puree, but I would assume a normal blender would be fine and you probably already have one of those in the house. It's such a short phase when they are even okay to eat pureed food before you should move on to mashed/whole foods (and you can just go straight to normal finger foods from 6 months anyway), I wouldn't invest in anything special for it.

Thanks everyone. I'm currently still researching about this whole weaning phase as I'm a FTM and completely new to it so looking at what's best to do etc. Baby-led weaning is the next chapter in my book that I have. Sounds like the tommee tippee machine is a bit of a waste of money then.
