I took my two year old to an outside event and for part of it we sat down to watch something, when everyone clapped he went absolutely mad screaming flinging himself back really distressed and scared , the second time I put my hands over his ears and he didn’t cry ? There’s been another time we were on a train and he did the same thing at all the loud noises. He is also the same if you sing to him or show him any praise. Not sure if it just sounds like toddler traits ? His uncle has severe autism so obviously I’m on the look out for that I’ve read it can run in families, but I don’t think he could have as he has hit all his milestones speech is great and he can interact with other children? He does have an obsession with a day to day object and talks about it constantly but then I’ve read this is common in toddlers too? Just wondering if anyone has experienced this ?

My DD and I are both autistic and both have hypersensitivity to noise, bright or flashing lights, and the feel of certain fabrics.
I had to move out of my house for a week when they were resurfacing my road - I couldn’t stand the racket, even inside double glazing with all the windows shut.
Not all autistics show developmental delay - some of us are high functioning with extremely high IQs. DD has a maths degree and an IQ of 160, for example.
Your DS may or may not turn out to be on the autistic spectrum, but for now what matters is to avoid loud noise with him wherever possible. It will be physically painful for him and very stressful. You might consider noise cancelling headphones for him - DD has those. I have some industrial ear defenders that I use as a last resort!
