15 month old not talking?

I hadn’t thought much about it as he communicates in his own way, but I’ve just been told about a toddler his age that can sing a nursery rhyme!

He babbles non stop, but the only word he has is “cat.” Whenever he sees our cat, it’s “cat, cat, cat!” or if I point to a cat in a book and ask what it is, he’ll say “cat” & if I ask “where’s dada?” he’ll look at his dad, so he definitely understands the words.

He babbles mama but he doesn’t call me mama or anything like that. When he wants something he points to it and makes an inquisitive “eh!” sound.

He’s not walking independently yet either, though over the last few days he’s starter standing independently!

Am I worrying over nothing? I know I shouldn’t compare. He seems ok to me, but he’s my first and when I hear of other babies his age doing these (what I thought were advanced) things.... I worry!

At 15 months my little girl only said mummy and daddy, and she often got them the wrong way round. I really worried that she should have been saying more. She suddenly started saying more at 18 months and by about 20 months said so many words. It was like a switch clicked and she learnt new words every day.
I don't think 15 months is unusual to not speak, although I understand the worrying!

At 15 months old you really don't need to worry!! If you're in the same boat in 6 months time you might want to seek advice but right now he sounds perfectly normal!

Get rid of the dummy if he has one, ditch bottles and try to use open cups to drink from instead, cut right back on screen time if he has it, look at lots of books and sing nursery rhymes to him, but please don't stress, speech will come!

OP my son is 14mo and I was thinking the same as you, so thank you for starting this thread because reading the replies have calmed my mind.
