Pram advise please! Oyster3 OutnAbout?

Hello,

We are looking to buy a pram for our first baby. We live in the countryside and walk our dogs everyday in wet and muddy farm fields.

I've been looking at the Out n About Nipper as I think it is practical and suits our muddy walks!

My mum likes the Oyster3 and the lady in the shop said it can be used in fields but I'm not sure if she was just trying to sell us the more expensive travel system and it can be used at the local park but not really farm fields?

Any advice on these prams or any others you can recommend please?

I have both the double and single out n about nipper! I love them, they are so light and easy to push and they have a big weight limit so will last a long time. Pushing any other buggy now feels really clunky and like hard work!

Sparkles512 · 08/06/2021 06:29

@LBB2020 thank you!

I really liked that it was light weight but also capable of going through muddy fields.

Just to convince my mum its the better option now 🤣

I had an OutnAbout Nipper 360, ad we also live in the countryside. You need the big pneumatic wheels, and the single front wheel. The Oyster is nicer looking, but impractical off road.

Agree with @BikeRunSki you need the air filled tyres and 3 wheels for off road! Our original travel system struggles through fields and over gravel etc
If you do go for the out n about take it to a bike shop and get the wheels slimed to help avoid punctures

No need to convince your mum, none of her business, unless she's paying for it?

Another to consider is the Bugaboo Fox 2, I have it and love it, it is expensive though.

I do think a 3 wheeler is best for muddy fields, if you don't mind world-facing and not parent-facing.

IDontDrinkTea · 08/06/2021 07:38

I had an oyster 3… def not suitable for farm fields. Struggled on uneven park grass

BikeRunSki · 08/06/2021 07:38

Also bear in mind that the O’n’A will probably fit your child until they are 4, but the Oyster probably won’t. If you do a lot of country walking, consider a sling rather than a pram/buggy straight away.

Look at micralite pushchairs. Proper tyres, easy to push and great on sand. Haven't tried in a field but think it would be good.

I had an oyster 3 and ended up returning it for a number of reasons but I would really not recommend it for proper off roading, it isn't designed for it and baby will be bouncing around in there if you can even drag it through the mud. It's fine for off-roading on a grassy park or unsealed path but not muddy fields.

SwanShaped · 08/06/2021 08:08

The outnabout is amazing on grass and fields. Not tried the other one. Just make sure you get some tyre slime to help prevent punctures. And buy some spare inner tubes.

You could also look at the Mountain Buggy Terrain with a Carrycot Plus. I like the fact that the carrycot can be converted into a parent-facing seat.

IT may have changed but the thing that put me off out n about was no parent facing. They certainly seem to hold value though.

I am in a farm. I went for two second hand. Town pram stays in the boot. Farm pram is filthy and lives in stable.

BikeRunSki · 08/06/2021 09:56

OP - for proper off road, you need big wheels to get over bumps easily. Pushchairs get more difficult to push when a 3 kg baby becomes a 10 kg 3 year old.

teaandlotusbiscoff · 08/06/2021 13:08

Yes deffo get a proper off roader! We have a mountain buggy and love it. It can be used parent facing longer with carrycot plus whereas the out n about is forward facing after carrycot

Sparkles512 · 08/06/2021 20:09

@namechange30 yes my mum has actually offered to buy both prams because she wants the oyster and the sales person said well I can do you a good deal and you won't want to be putting that muddy pram in your car to go shopping 🙈🤣

I think a 3 wheeler is the best option and we should avoid the shiny oyster!

I will definitely have a look into the Mountain buggy thank you 😃

Wow she must have money to burn!
Get her to buy you a Tripp Trapp chair they're brill Wink

Sparkles512 · 08/06/2021 20:41

@NameChange30 shes a sales persons dream! She is rather eccentric.
She believes more expensive must be better

I'm more practical, realistic and love a bargain luckily 🤣

I loved the out n about but found folding it a faff. Now I have a baby jogger city elite. This has big wheels like the nipper but also a one handed fold and an extra large hood.
I actually own 4 baby joggers in various models but I'm my defence I'm a childminder -and a baby jogger addict--
I've tried loads of others but these are the best.

Sparkles512 · 08/06/2021 21:07

@WisestIsShe I have looked at the Baby Jogger but the sales person said they don't sit upright and there is no where for the child's feet so said to avoid the jogger for toddlers.

Do you find this an issue?

OP posts:
WisestIsShe · 08/06/2021 21:10

Definitely not. It sits at least as upright as the nipper does. It doesn't have a solid plastic bit for dirty shoes, that's true but I just use a liner and wash it.

Sparkles512 · 08/06/2021 21:15

@WisestIsShe thats really helpful thank you.

The baby jogger is such a good price maybe its worth another look! It seemed so popular on reviews but the sales person put me off and said the Nipper was better

OP posts:
WisestIsShe · 08/06/2021 21:15

Also the baby jogger front wheel can be fixed or swivel. Handy to be fixed for rough terrain but great manoeuvrability when swivel.

PomegranateQueen · 08/06/2021 21:23

I loved my oyster and it lasted both babies even though it was very heavily used. It was no good for off reading though, I used a sling for that. It's definitely worth trying a sling library when baby is here, a good comfortable sling was a game changer for country walks.
