Toddler & constant cheek rash

I feel like his cheeks haven’t been clear since he was a few months old. Sometimes it’s not as bad but right now it’s really flared up. I use balmonds skin salvation & Weleda face mallow on him but it’s not making a difference right now and I don’t even know what’s causing it?

I’ve not really thought much about it and had just put it down to dribble rash etc, but now I’m worrying whether I should be doing something else or asking for professional advice?

From the pics it looks like the area may be a bit dry? DDs cheeks sometimes look like this if eczema is flaring up!?

Not sure what the exclamation mark is about. You could send pics to GP or pass by a pharmacy and get a pharmacist to take a look who may be able to advise.

Looks very similar to the reaction my D's gets after eating a small amount of dairy (to which he is allergic), if he eats a lot of it he is sick. Could it be a reaction to something?

Looks like a milk intolerance rash to me. Both my kids had this whenever they had dairy

Onthegrapevine · 03/06/2021 22:38

@Eachpeachpears Possibly, but they have always been reddish, sometimes they’ll go down for a few days then back up again, but this dry looking rash is more recent.

I will probably send some photos to the GP and see what they think.

@SpongebobNoPants He’s 15 months and he’s always had dairy, he has a fair amount every day. This specific rash is quite recent and he doesn’t have any other symptoms to suggest an intolerance either. Maybe he wouldn’t? Confused

My DS is very similar and at almost 4 still suffers. Vaseline pretty good as a barrier, Moisturise regularly throughout the day, and when gets really bad Hydrocortisone from the GP.

Eachpeachpears · 03/06/2021 22:45

If he's always had dairy, and he's always had a face rash, maybe there is a link? Just not as severe as some reactions. It could be a reaction to something else, I'm not sure if gluten gives a rash type reaction? I know eggs does. I would be doing trials of cutting out common allergens like the ones I've mentioned and seeing how you go. No harm in trying

Onthegrapevine · 03/06/2021 22:47

@Eachpeachpears Very true. I’ll speak to the GP and play around with his diet in the meantime. Thanks!

Good luck with it.
Some good dairy free things I've found to give Ds as treats include
Party rings
Various biscuits (his favourite are fruit shortcakes)
The yoyo bear things
Many of the toddler oat bars
Popcorn (although might be a slight choking hazard for your Lo)
Fruit (yes, my Ds thinks it's a treat, he likes it that much!)
And there is many vegan ice-cream options now
Oh and garlic bread

@Eachpeachpears thank you Smile

My DS had this constantly after weaning. Finally realised he has an egg allergy. So could be that?

SpongebobNoPants · 03/06/2021 23:17

@Onthegrapevine does he get a runny nose a lot, or prone to a wheezy chest?

My DD was 16 months when she was diagnosed as I’d taken her to the doctor about something totally unrelated (I think she had an ear infection?) but as I was sat there my Dr said
“Her ear will be fine, I’ll prescribe some drops... but I’m more concerned about her rash on her face. How long has she had a dairy intolerance?”

Literally that simple. I said she I didn’t think she did have any intolerances but my Dr was quite insistent and sent her for testing, turns out he was right! I cut out all dairy and the rash cleared up completely within 72 hours.

It looks exactly like my youngest when he was that age. He looked like he had sunburnt cheeks sometimes. It turned out to be eczema and he was prescribed sine cream for it.
