Birth mark?

Hi, just wondering if anyone knows if this is a birth mark on my 5 week old little boys buttocks? The health visitor came yesterday and said it probably is a birth mark but if I want to get it checked by the doctor I can. Well I'm an extremely anxious first time mother so phoned the doctor and they said to send a picture of the mark and someone will get back to me. I've been waiting yesterday and today now and still haven't had a phonecall. I phoned the surgery and they said sorry but they'll get someone to phone me tomorrow now. Has anyone had anything similar on their babies? Thanks

My wee one has a birthmark like that, but bigger, I love it. I tell him he's the only one in the world with that special mark

My son was born without a birthmark, and when he was a few weeks old a red mark started to appear on the top of his head. It looked a lot like your photo. It was so tiny I initially wondered if I'd accidentally scratched him.

It gradually got bigger and raised, and for some time it was quite noticeable and angry looking. However he's almost 3 now and it's no longer raised and has massively faded. He's had it checked a couple of times because it's on his head, and they've said it will eventually disappear completely.

It's called a hemangioma, and in my sons case was absolutely nothing to worry about.

I agree that it looks like it could be a hemangioma (my 4 month old has one on his forehead and another on his back) and if it is, it will increase quite a bit in size within the first 12 weeks or so.

They can be treated with beta blockers - my little boys are - but GPs aren’t that clued up on them and I don’t know if they’d class is as urgent to treat with it being on his bum cheek.

There is a group on Facebook called Birthmark Support Group that has a lot of much more clued up people along with some of the birthmark specialists from GOSH on it so might be worth joining there for more advice

Good luck with the GP (mine was clueless so you might need it!)
