At what age did you let your child out to play

We have recently moved to a housing estate with lots of children on- a big reason for that is so our DD (8) and DS (5) could have more children around to play, safer area etc
When the children have played outside on scooters etc DH or I have been there pottering on driveway etc but there are lots of unsupervised children playing - I've never seen any issues apart from one little boy hurt himself coming off his bike- and my children and I then walked him home. Yesterday a 6/7 year old came to call my daughter to go out to play- my daughter was in the middle of a game and said maybe tomorrow and didn't want to go.
My feeling is, that DD is too young to be unsupervised, but she is a pretty sensible child- (I'm prepared to hear if I'm overprotective or being unreasonable.) I just feel it's a hard one to ask the school mums as it's a question that sounds judgmental if opinions differ!
so at what age do people thing is ok for a child to play unsupervised in the street?
(Not to drip feed, nice street, outside of a town, I know hardly any of the neighbours, lots of other children out playing going up and down on bikes etc. Street is long, maybe half a mile)

I let the teen go out with her mates, she was 12 when she started walking home from school alone. The younger ones (10 and below) can play in the garden only. People drive like morons round these parts so I'm not comfortable with them unsupervised near the roads.

My DD isn’t old enough for me to have made this decision yet but I know I was allowed out when I was 11 (so yr6)

That's great to have other people perspectives- thank you both

I’ve seen a lot of similar threads lately and have been thinking about this too. My DD is 8 and kids are always playing in our street unsupervised. Some of them are from her school. I even seen kids who are younger than 8 playing out unsupervised. I just get really nervous when she’s out my sight and all the horror stories I read don’t help. I’m still iffy x

Just lately there seems to be a massive amount of young children playing out unsupervised on our estate but I’m not comfortable letting mine do the same yet. My 8 year old regularly has his classmates knock on the door for him but I just don’t trust him to be safe. There are constantly cars speeding about but he also lacks common sense.

I live on a new estate - lots of families, lots of cars and I see kids as young as 5 out playing alone.
My DD is 7 and I still feel she's too young to be out on her own as I don't think she has the road sense yet (as a lot of these kids don't, they often go hurtling infront of cars without looking etc). I tend to hover about weeding in the front garden and let her play with DS (4) in the little playpark immediately opposite.

How times change. I started school on my fifth birthday in the 1960s and had been playing out for about a year before that.

My DD plays out. She’s 8. Has played our from being 7 and a half.

I watch DS he is 6.
DD started playing about 8.
If your new to the area I'd watch a little longer feel out whose who.

My DC were allowed out unsupervised from year 4 or so, but we live in a cul-de-sac and it’s pretty safe. There are lots of families on our street so there is a pretty big mix of kids of various ages so I’m more relaxed than some. The kids flit in and out of all the gardens as well as on the street.
