Do you take anything to playdates?

I am taking DS to a schoolfriends house tomorrow morning to play in the garden. He is in reception so this is the first time. I don't know the other mum well at all so don't know what her attitude to sugar etc is. Should I take anything?

I used to take a small packs of cakes or something.

I always take cakes or biscuits. You could always take some prepared fruit as well if you aren't sure?

Add long as you don't take crack cocaine you should be OK. Don't overthink, no normal mum is going to get upset at a small treat.

I would probably take some sort of snack. Either something for kids to share or something for grown ups to eat?

Depends a bit where you live and your own skills/circumstances. It generally isn't expected I think but is often a nice gesture, I also think it can make you feel a bit better if your child has a bad moment or two.

Where we used to live, I'd grab a pack of mini chocolate rolls or something on the way but make sure I showed the mum before mentioning to the kids, so we could either eat then ourselves with a cup of tea or give to kids.

We now live in a fancier place with way more kids and parents with more restrictive diets/allergies, unless I know them a bit already I'd bring some berries or other fruits to a first playdate, less likely to cause issues and easy to take home if it's not suitable

I'd take either a pack of nice-ish biscuits or fruit. I usually avoid anything with chocolate in because of not knowing other people's attitude to it. My DC also can make a right mess eating chocolate coated biscuits as they always seem to melt over their hands, which I don't want to risk in other people's houses!

Thank you. I was wavering between fruit and biscuits. Good point about not getting chocolate covered ones @CrabbyCat
