Baby who fights sleep

Any tips that you found helped to send your little one off?

My son is a nightmare for this. He will fight sleep every time though I know he needs it, it turns into a wrestling match half the time to get him to have a nap/go to sleep in the evening.

Maybe I'm kidding myself and this is just how it is and nothing will help but if anyone has any suggestions I'd love to hear them!

Most babies fight sleep at that age. And many parents wholly underestimate the level of help they need to give their baby to go to sleep independently.

Some well established things that help:

  • sucking to sleep. Dumny or feed to sleep
  • going to sleep in something that moves (bouncer, pushchair for example)
  • going to sleep where they stay asleep, rather than being out down already asleep. So if going to sleep in your arms, stay there. If to sleep in the cot, start off there.
  • limited awake time between naps. An approximation for awake window is around double the previous nap length. Over tiredness makes getting to sleep significantly harder.
  • plenty of frequent calories
  • Subdued environment and white noise
