Not dividing tongue-tie?

Just had DD2 a week ago, and have been told by every midwife that's looked at her that she's got a slight tongue-tie, but not to worry about it if she's feeding okay. She mostly is feeding fine (breast) but sometimes struggles to latch on or will fall off. Once she's on she feeds really well and they have no concerns about her weight. It's quite painful for me though, as she seems to only be able to get onto the nipple, and can't get a bigger mouthful. We're taking her to be seen for this tomorrow, but I feel like they're going to tell is that it's not a problem. Should I insist on it being divided? I've read on here it can cause problems with eating and speech later down the line, and would rather resolve this now just to make things easier for her when she gets older. Anyone had tongue-tie and left it? Would you get it done if you could go back in time?

Yes, my daughter had this and runs in our family. Do it. If they won't do it on NHS then pay for it privately if you can. My grandfather had a speech impediment which was suspected to be worsened (if not caused by) a tongue tie that wasn't fixed.

If it’s painful when she feeds, it’s an issue and needs rectified.

Thanks, didn't think about getting it done privately but will do that if they say no. Her tongue looks so strange when she does move it so I can't just leave it!

My son has a tongue tie but it didn't impact on his latch.

We decided not to have it shipped. You can still see it now (he's 4) but has had no impact on eating or speaking. I don't regret leaving it.

Sorry also meant to say that if it is impacting latch then a very good reason to have it done. My daughter's latch was terrible and the snip of the tongue tie fixed it instantly, it was incredible actually seeing how she was able to feed straight away. I was in so much pain with it before and never had an issue following.

You're better off getting it divided if you're having latching issues. The NHS can have quite lengthy waiting lists so if you can afford it you may be better off going private.
