Bottle refusing ebf baby

My DD is four months old and ebf. Since she was four weeks old I have been expressing milk and my DP has been trying to feed her once a day so that I can have a bit of a break/sleep, but he's had very limited success. It can take him an hour to persuade her to drink 20ml so ultimately we always end up giving in and going back to breastfeeding.

We have tried MAM, Nuk and Tommee Tippee bottles so far but she just spits all of them out. We've also tried feeding her at different times of day and warming/not warming the milk. Does anyone have any other tips or things that worked for them? I also don't know how hard we should persevere with each bottle attempt - should we keep going even if she cries or stop straight away?

My daughter was mainly fed from me, but now and again I would pump milk so Papa could give her a bottle. She starting refusing to take a bottle around 3 months old and this lasted until she stopped drinking boob durning the day when she was about 14 months old. We also tried various combinations of different bottles, teats, temperatures, but nothing worked so we gave up. We did perserve for around a month but we didn't make any progress and we didn't want to try and force her if she clearly didn't want it. It was annoying at first but we managed.

My little has been very anti bottle but we have recently had some success:

Only offering the boob 4 times a day (not including night feeds), consistently offering bottle many other times per day and soothing her in other ways if she refuses it in between breastfeeding.

She seems to like the Como tomo bottle best, will sometimes take milk from lansinoh bottles.

I get the milk quite warm probably a little warmer than body temp.

I chat with her very cheerily while offering the bottle and don't force it in her mouth, she usually wants to play with it a bit and push it out of her mouth with her tongue and chew on it for a few minutes before properly latching on. With the lansinoh bottles I got her used to them by breastfeeding and then sneaking the bottle into her mouth while she was distracted.

I try to offer the bottles when she is already in a good mood and before she gives hunger cues.

This is only a very recent success, we're very much hoping it sticks!

@Misaki glad to know we’re not alone even if slightly depressed at your answer!

@BookFiend4Life thanks for sharing, will start by trying warmer milk and see how it goes Smile
