Nursery sleeping arrangements

Hello!

I'm currently 21 weeks pregnant with my first baby and beginning to think ahead now passed the 20 week scan mark.

I know the baby will sleep in with us for 6 months before going into the nursery but am trying to get my head round furnishing the rest of the nursery.

We don't have a huge room, but it currently has a double bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers and x 2 bedside tables in it so some room to play with.

Quite a few friends and family have advised to try and keep a bed in there for DP or visitors but I just don't see how I can keep the bed plus fit a cot and other bits for baby in?

Have thought about swapping double bed for small double or single but realistically how much will it be used? Other options are a day bed or sofa bed but then I'd worry about comfort of this if DP was sleeping in there regularly (which quite a few Dad's seem to do!).

Had anyone got any experience or suggestions on a useful yet practical sleeping arrangement?

We have an IKEA day bed and it was really useful when DS was small and pulled out into a double in case of visitors. In reality he wasn’t in his own room consistently until he was a year old and then we moved him to the bed at 2 years old (with a side protector on it to stop him falling out.).

We used a small double for both our children. DD1 was in the cot for 2 months and DD2 has never used a cot. Honestly, I would wait until your baby is here and see what you need then.

I wouldn't bother keeping a bed in there as realistically I don't think it would work. I don't actually know anyone in real life who has gotten their partner to sleep in another room. Plus I don't see how a guest would be able to share a room with the baby. I'd much rather have more room for baby things like a nice comfy nursing chair.

We had a sofa bed - it meant there was a nice, comfy space to sit and feed and a bed for visitors like FIL. When he visited, DS would come back in with us.

We’ve got a single bed in the nursery. Initially I slept in there whilst dd was in her cot then when the 4 month regression hit (and it hit us hard) we swapped and me and DD bedshare in the main bed and DH sleeps in the single.

Never had a bed in the nursery and neither me or DH slept anywhere else apart from our bed. Kids both went into the cot in the nursery from 6 months ish and DD still has that as her bedroom with the cot bed with side off and shes 3.5. DS got moved to his “big boy room” at 2, before DD was born

My kids were both pretty good sleepers though. I had a rocking chair in the nursery so I’d do feeds in there even when they were sleeping in our room as it was more comfortable than sitting in bed. Also our bedrooms are really close together and not v big, so it’s only a few steps away
