5 weeks old Feeding.

I have a 5 weeks old baby boy and is on formula (aptamil) and is feeding 3 to 3 and half hours each time. On the side of the tub it's saying at his age it's should be 4-5 hours.

Is anyone else baby still feeding just after 3 hours?

The tub is guidance although not sure where from. My lb always fed more often and more than what the tub said. Does your baby always finish a bottle? If so you could make up an extra ounce and see how they go. Every baby is different, books, tubs, and everyone you speak to will always say something different x

The 4 hour advise is based on a study of baby birds. Just feed your baby when he is hungry.

Love this 🤣 You're probably right!

My baby always fed every 2.5-3 hours until she was about 5 months old. Just feed on demand, so much easier.

It's normal to feed more often than 4 hourly. Mine were about 4 months old when they got to 4 hourly feeds.

Sadly the babies can't read the side of the side of the tub Wink

I've FF fed two and always aimed to feed every four hours by two to three weeks. If they started wanted feeds sooner, I'd simply offer an extra ounce of milk and aim to space back to four hours. I found that by doing this during the day, they would sleep for longer at night.

God ignore the tubs please. Dd1 fed every 2 hours until about 8 months 🤣 all babies are different and now we're told to feed on demand not do the older fashioned method of making them wait for a 4 hourly feed. If your boy is doing 3 hours at 5 weeks your doing bloody great 😊

Thank you everyone, he is having 150ml and a lot of the time he has drunk it all. The problem we have come to the night time feed, anything time from 8pm to 10pm he comes a little devil - he will want another in 2 hours after finishing the bottle. He is a windy baby so I know it's not colic, he has this thing where he fights his sleep and will cry till the cows come in and won't settle. The only difference is that we make the room dark for him so he knows the difference between the days.

I read so much stuff and I'm not sure what I'm doing - I'm a first time parent too.

I've just read the side of the tub and laughed. Both of mine have always had way more than recommended. DS had a bottle every 2 hours till 4 months and DD is a 3 hour baby - you could set your watch by her.

It's usual for them to be fussy and feed more in the evenings (the witching hours, we have a less kind phrase for it here though!) If you keep daytime bright & noisy and nighttime dark & quieter they get the hang of day & night soon enough. Congratulations.

@Chickenlickeninthepot Haha yes we call it sometime different too but I think I'll get band from chat if I posted it.

Day time is always noisy but at night I tend to put soothing music (mainly for me Smile). I will give this ago.

I thought having a baby I could cope with the nights as I did shift work (12hours) man I was soooooooo wrong.

Thank again everyone.
