What do you do all day? What do you do for Naps? Feeds? Activities?

Very loosely... 7-9am plays in jumperoo or on play mat. 9-10ish naps in sling. After that we play, sing songs, he watches me get ready etc. We usually get ready to go out somewhere about 12... often a pram walk where he has a nap, sometimes we might drive to see a family member or friend. A couple of days a week we do a baby class in the middle of the day. A bit more play time at home in the afternoon and another short nap if he needs it. Then 5-7pm wind down for bed... watches us have dinner, bath time every other night, kicks around on his changing mat and bed at 7pm. I breastfeed on demand throughout the day.

Roughly an average day looks like:
7am wake
7-9am change, feed, play in jumperoo, roll round everywhere
9-10.30am morning nap whilst I get ready
10.30-12.30pm change, feed then go on a walk if not hammering it down. If it is then I try and do a sensory activity (we’ve tried paints and music toys) or we go to a local baby session. I’ve also introduced purée so he usually has a small amount around this time.
12.30-1.30/2pm lunchtime nap
2pm-4pm odd jobs like going for a food shop, post office etc if we haven’t been to a baby session then we may go swimming
4-4.30pm possible afternoon nap doesn’t always happen
4.30-6pm play with daddy as he’s home from work, watch baby tv, tummy time then alternate bath night and get ready for bed
6-7pm in crib asleep and I go down for dinner and unwind a little

It’s starting to change now things are opening up again and I can meet other mums in doors. We also visit family often if any are WFH. I do find it hard to always think of activities and it really depends on how he is and how the wake windows fall as to when/what we do.. I hate block booking baby sessions for this reason and much prefer the drop in type ones (bit of singing and mums chat.. usually a lot cheaper to!)

This is for a typical weekday with no visitors and husband not working from home. On the weekend a lot of this is done by her dad

(Times are not exact, all times plus or minus half an hour at least):

5:30 am, woken up by the light and birds (ugh). Bring her into bed for cuddles.
7 am, I get up, washed and dressed, then do the same for baby
7:30 am, first bottle
8-9 am, I get on with various chores while she's parked in her bouncy chair with a toy, watching me. I talk / sing to her as I go.
9-10:30 am, contact nap
10:30-11 am, various play activities
11 am, bottle
11:30 am to 1 pm, go out if we're going to, otherwise tummy time, play mat, reading, etc. after I've had lunch.
1-2 pm, contact nap
2 pm, meal of porridge or purée, followed by more play
3 pm, bottle, more play
4-5 pm, contact nap
5-6 pm, park her in the bouncer again while I do more chores, cook and eat
6-7 pm, her dad entertains her
7 pm, bedtime routine including bottle
8 pm, asleep in crib
2 am, night time bottle

I've got a 3yo as well so baby mostly just fits round him. Poor thing doesn't get a look in on the days I've got the two of them by myself. On nursery days we do baby classes, long buggy walks and more play in the house.

Wake up between 6.30-7.30 (I wake her at 7.30 if she's still asleep).Bottle, wash, change clothes, nap about 8.30/9am for 30-40 minutes.
Then bottles at around 10, 1, 4, 7 and a dream feed at 10pm ish. Started weaning so normally gums a carrot at about 5.30pm.
Naps are at around 12ish and 3ish, she goes to sleep between 7.30-9pm. No set bedtime routine. She sleeps through and I am incredibly grateful for her being such a good sleeper.

Activities wise as well as the usual baby toys, I do a little treasure basket and we'll explore that together - so I just pick a theme and then find things that fit. This week was "red" so there was a red spoon, one of DHs socks, a red rattle, a red cup....

Lots of floor time and tummy time as she shows no sign of moving yet! Need to dig out the jumperoo at some point.

@CoalCraft
“ 5:30 am, woken up by the light and birds (ugh). ”

Blackout liners in curtains and additional blackout blind if necessary
Long play white noise machine

Have you tried either?

Norabatty40 · 22/05/2021 07:16

Breast on and off during night but co sleeps so is fine.
Wakes at 7.. has porridge and bottle.
Plays until 9 or 10 and in jumperoo which he loves.
Naps around an hour around 10.
Just introduced lunch now and another bottle at 12.

More play and jobs like shopping.
Bottle around 3.
Dinner and bottle at 5.
Plays with his brothers and toys.
Bath at 6.
Bottle at 7.
Sleeps around 8.

Boobs on and off during the day.
(Sounds like a lot of food but he is a big boy and not in the slightest overweight)

CoalCraft · 22/05/2021 08:54

@Cleverpolly3

Blackout blinds, yes, but they don't block out 100% of the light. I'm assuming she's like me in that the first hint of lightening is enough to wake her. We're looking at getting lined curtains too.

Not sure about white noise - wouldn't it come through on the baby monitor and make it harder to hear if she's awake (apart from being annoying)? I use white noise myself when I'm napping but not thought about putting it in the baby's room...

SugarOrange · 23/05/2021 20:52

@CoalCraft I know this wasn’t to me but thought I would mention Ewan the Dream Sheep. It plays white noise for twenty minutes (four options) then fades out but it has a cry sensor so would start again when baby starts to grizzle.

My LO didn’t seem bothered by it when he was newborn but the past month or so it’s really helped him settle.. and you don’t have to listen to it all night
