How long does an episode of teething take?

PFB DD (nearly 6 mo, 4.5 mo adjusted) has been showing all the classic teething signs - drooling, flushed cheeks, chewing, rubbing gums / cheeks, pulling ears and generally being fussy and showing signs of discomfort. The thing is, stuff online seems to say that teething should only cause pain for a few days either side of actual eruption, and we're coming up to ,2.5 weeks now.

It's hot me wondering whether it really is teething? Or if it is, whether everything's going okay? I'm sure she does have some discomfort in her mouth for all the reasons mentioned, and also because she was starting to refuse bottles until we switched to ones with softer teats. Now she still appears in pain during and after feeding, but less so than with the hard teat. We have only just started trying tiny bits of porridge and puree so hardly weaning yet.

When I look in her mouth I do feel like her teeth look closer to the surface, but tbh I've always been able to see them and it might be my imagination saying they look closer. It also looks like things are happening out of order - her top incisors look more ready than the bottom ones, and there's a white bit at the back of each gum that looks like either some molars are very close, or are through already Shock I'm sure this can't be right but she won't let me look closely to see.

I've attached a pic. It's from a little while ago and I've shown it before, but it illustrates how knobbly her bottom gum looks, and you can kinda make out the white but at the back of the gum.

So is it normal for teething pain to go on for weeks, despite what pages online say? Is it normal to see back teeth looking so close, so early? I'm really concerned that the process is going a bit wrong.

I could see my DD’s 2 bottom teeth from around 6 months. She’d have flushed cheeks, warm, drooling etc for days at a time but nothing would erupt. She only just cut her first tooth at 1 year and 6 days so it can take a long time Sad

I have exactly the same problem op! started about 4 and a bit months now 5 months, it seems never ending discomfort no matter how much bonjela or soothing you do. We have been weaning here and there too. Baby seems less fussy with that when had some, dc gums are also the same!
hopefully your little ones teeth start coming through, good luck🙈 don't have much advice but share your pain right now!

Ah well glad it's not just me at least, though sorry other DCs are struggling with it too!

I wasn't worried until reading online that it was only supposed to last 7-10 days, and noticing that her gums look a bit odd. You can read some strange things online though. I saw one page that said teething doesn't cause discomfort at all and parents just like to use it as a scapegoat for fussiness... Uh... Sure... Hmm
