Travel cot as permanent bed?

Hi everyone,

Has anyone used a travel cot as their baby's permanent cot? Could you recommend any brands and whether you got a separate mattress?

We have a small flat so no point in buying more than one, and like the idea of it being portable and being able to take on family visits.

Thanks

I got the nuna Sena aire for my son when he was too old for the next to me and until I was ready to let him sleep in his cot bed in his own room. I chose it because it's very easy to put up and collapse. It's easy to travel with and it has mesh all around so breathable. The quality is great!

The mattress is quite firm but I think they all are for safety reasons. I was told you shouldn't use another mattress in a travel cot as it can be dangerous. My son slept fairly well in it. He used to go down in it but would frequently wake during the night and end up in bed with us.

Just an old second hand one with a Morhercare mattress. It meant she was always in the same cot if we went away!

We had the OBaby compact cot that lasted up to 18 months, have a Google, it really is compact but v comfortable for baby.

As above extra mattresses in a travel cot are not recommended. From a practical point if view once the baby is rolling they're supposed to go on the 'floor' of most travel cots- i found it did my back in putting down and picking up from that level.

How are you planning to use the travel cot for sleepovers'-as in how many different family members are you planning to stay with, and how often?

I remember reading in one of the pamphlets that it wasn't recommended because of back and neck support? But that was back around 2010, no doubt they're better now?

Have you used one with your baby? I found the fact that they’re so low to the floor quite difficult as it’s very hard to gently transfer a sleeping/sleepy baby into them and you can’t do any soothing like reaching in to pat and comfort them as it’s such a difficult angle to lean in at for long
