DS is getting up at bloody 4.30am in the sodding morning. He has been doing this for about 6 months now.

He also won't go down until midnight, but he wakes up again at 1.30am usually. Then takes 45 minutes to settle back down.

Does not nap in the day and seems completely untouched by the lack of sleep.

Does anyone have any advice? He's been given a medication but it isn't working. Have been on it a few weeks. Consultant seems to just be shrugging his shoulders now, nothing else they can do.

We stick to the same routine every evening. Bath before bed (believe me, he will not settle at all if no bath before bed, and he's always so bloody dirty somehow that he needs at least a shower anyway). Winding down. Calm voices. He just jumps off the bed and does forward rolls Envy

Nightmare

How old and does he have a diagnosis for anything causing it?

PictureWest · 14/05/2021 21:46

Marsh he's autistic (so sorry, thought I said in my post). But consultant insists some children are just like this, autism or not. Another consultant disagrees

Consultants give medication to help kids sleep? You have my sympathy but that sounds bit off.. can that ever be a good thing? How old is he anyway?

He is 3.5. Yes it's called Melatonin. It's actually something the body produces naturally anyway

I have no advice, just sympathy, that must be brutal. Might be worth posting on the SEN boards, there’s bound to be someone there with experience.

Have you had any contact with the charity Scope? It’s a charity supporting families of children with disabilities and I know they’ve recently done sleep workshops. Unfortunately it is a common trait in children with Autism, maybe he needs a higher level of Melatonin? Do you have any support from any local Autism support groups or an outreach team? Or an EHCP or Early help plan that could also support with your social care needs (sleep!)
