Toddler bedtime battle, moved to a bed

DS is 2. We have recently moved him into a bed. We're over a week into the change and bedtime has become a battle ground with him getting out of bed again and again. Takes an hour or so to get him to sleep even when he's shattered We've been trying just putting him back into bed without saying anything but this just seems to become a game to him.

Looking for ideas of other things we could try. I wondered about a reward chart but I don't know if this would be effective at his age? All suggestions welcome.

I'm following out of curiosity

My 19 month old won't sleep in anything but his cot and sleeping bag. He won't entertain a pillow and duvet and the toddler bed is out of the question.

I'm just about to change from cod to bed with my 2 yo so hoping to follow some advice as I'm worried about this being an issue!

Could you move him back? We did cot until he was old enough to understand he had to stay in bed.

My dd moved from cot to bed about 22 months as she was climbing out of her cot. We put a stair gate at her bedroom door and made sure everything in her room was safe and then left her to it really. She went to sleep on the floor a couple of times early on and we just picked her up and put her in bed. She soon realised her nice cosy bed was better than the floor. She also comes to the gate and calls for us if she needs us.

Should add we only have some books and soft toys in her room so nothing exciting or noisy to play with.

@CarlottaValdez cot isn't safe any more really he nearly tipped it over with rocking and has a good go at climbing out.

@LilacSloth we have put a stair gate on as well and also nothing dangerous in the room so maybe we should try just leaving him to it!

Stair gate on the door way and an audiobook or CBeebies radio to listen to to fall asleep.
