Really bad nappy rash?

blvdbrokendreams · 14/05/2021 15:25

My daughter is 9 months old. She has really bad nappy rash up her bum and starting to go up her vulva. She's sore. And it's starting to.bleed. Weve been using metonium cream and leaving her nappyless as much as possible. We have always changed her nappies very regularly and use water based wipes. We are dabbing her dry now rather than wiping using a damp flannel. Shes sobbing at every nappy change, and flailing and crying. It's breaking my heart. I've contacted the gp who will phone me Monday if no improvement. This is the first time we've had this and I dont know what.to do.
Any suggestions?

Have you tried the yellow metanium (to treat) with bepanthum (or other brand) as a barrier? This is the only thing that cured it here, completely covered in both at the same time. Took about 3 days to improve. Hope she feels better and is happier soon.

Call your gp and ask for some timodine.
DD had awful nappy rash after a stomach bug and timodine cleared it overnight.

It sounds completely ridiculous but egg white coating her bum will work wonders. It makes a great barrier and will clear it up quickly. I know it's one of those 1950's type solutions but it really is great.

Yellow Metanium and bare bum

FelicityPike · 14/05/2021 15:34

Whisked up egg whites!!
Slather that over the rash.

blvdbrokendreams · 14/05/2021 15:35

It is metanium we are using. Not metonium 😂. I'll try putting a barrier over it and try some egg whites as well. Willing to try anything. Shes been nappyless as much as we can. Shes so so uncomfortable. She had a tummy bug a few days ago. She had 7 dirty nappies in one day and it's gone from there.

@FelicityPike pleased I'm not the only one to say it. It really is like a miracle cure when all else fails.

Wnikat · 14/05/2021 15:36

Canaesten and blow dry her with a hairdryer on cool setting after changing.

blvdbrokendreams · 14/05/2021 15:36

@FelicityPike second person to say that..husband whisking up egg whites as I message

Mine both needed something from doctor (can't remember what, sorry) but it wasn't available over counter and GP said don't hesitate to come for nappy rash if skin is broken.

I would go to pharmacy. Not sure where you are but here (Scotland) they can prescribe or advise where you need to go.

Megan2018 · 14/05/2021 15:37

Try a fungal nappy cream, from your pharmacist. That’s what works for us when yellow metanium fails.

Canesten makes one.

ruby3754 · 14/05/2021 15:38

I had this with my son as a newborn, it was awful. The health visitor said If yellow metanium hasn't worked it is probably a fungal infection, and told me to get the gp to prescribe daktacort. I was actually going away and couldn't get to the gp so used a mix of canesten and hydrocortisone that I already had and it started to improve within a few hours and was completely healed by the time we got back.

Oh I didn’t notice, but great minds.
Slather it on, leave nappy undone or lay the wee lamb on a towel for a while.

blvdbrokendreams · 14/05/2021 15:40

I'll give the gp another call as well. Shes red raw and the skin is broken. Its wet to the touch and the skin itself feels warm

LadyDanburysHat · 14/05/2021 15:51

Once the egg white dries it will create a good barrier that won't be affected by a wet nappy and will allow it to heal. Upset stomach is the worst for causing nappy rash.

blvdbrokendreams · 14/05/2021 19:02

Gp rang us and prescribed some strong cream. She's still miserable and sore but fingers crossed it works

iLex is another good one to try. Hope it gets sorted soon x

MoesBar · 14/05/2021 21:26

Nurofen too for the pain. My youngest DD was like that after a really bad tummy bug, it’s horrible Sad

Findahouse21 · 14/05/2021 21:26

Once you have the cream then don't use any water to remove it, use an oil. Water retears at the skin but oil retains the healing prompted by the cream - we used baby oil.

maryberryslayers · 14/05/2021 22:21

Just make sure you put barrier cream over the doctors cream to allow it to heal.

modgepodge · 15/05/2021 20:10

Hope it’s cleared up a bit now. Are you breastfeeding? My daughter had a rash the other day (also after a day of about 8 poos) and I had some old breast milk stored in the freezer - I put it in her bath and then neat on before bed and it seemed to help massively, more than the yellow metanium cream which usually is magic. Can’t remember where I read to try that but I’m glad I did.

tigerbreadandtea · 15/05/2021 22:13

Don't use wipes, use cotton pads and warm water.

redmimi · 15/05/2021 22:24

Using cornflour like talc worked wonders when my daughter had terrible nappy rash.
