Helping 5.5 week old with a cold!

Hi all, my 5.5 week old daughter has a cold, she's sounding really snotty and has the occasional cough and sneeze. She's feeding and sleeping lots which I'm taking as a good sign, and generally seems alright in herself.
I'm keeping her upright as much as possible but is there anything else I can do to help her cold pass quickly, especially the snotty breathing?! Will fresh air or a bath help or hinder?
I also have a cold so just feeling a bit sorry for ourselves haha!

Oh no! You can get saline drops that are suitable from new born to help with a stuffy nose, raising the head end of the cot/basket usually helps too.

I usually take mine kids for some fresh air every day unless they are very ill so I'd get wrapped up and pop out for a bit.

Can you get a snot sucker? Nasal aspirator in chemist language?! My 6 month old had the same problem when she was only a few weeks old after catching a cold from her snotty 6 year old brother and the snot sucker was one of the best things I've ever bought. A bit of saline spray first and then suck it out, it's weirdly satisfying! A bit or fresh air as long as she's wrapped up appropriately for the weather will probably help you both too. Hope she feels better soon, it's awful seeing them struggle when they're so little.

Thank you both, I've got the snot sucker but only used it for the snot that I can see as haven't got the drops but it did seem to really help! Will head out now for a walk and will get some drops 😃 just so horrible hearing them uncomfortable isn't it, if only they could blow their noses!!

A room steam humidifier with some drops of Olbas in can work really well. Good luck, I hope you're both over the cold soon!

The nose sucker is great after waiting a few minutes from putting in drops. Sit in bathroom with shower running as the steam will help as well. You don’t say if you are breast feeding but if you are keep going and offering if as your milk will contain the antibodies the baby needs - the babies saliva is detected by your body and makes the correct anti bodies.

My LO was the same at 6 weeks, doc recommend snuffle babe only on the soles of his feet, worked great

Thanks all, will give those things a try.
@Hardchoices I'm breastfeeding and she's been feeding and pooing loads today so hopefully it's flushing it out of her system!

Poor poppet - steam is helpful (from a shower) saline and a snot sucker also help. The snot sucker was a real moment when I realised my life had changed! Hope she’s perkier soon
