Activities for babies

Hi, my baby does swimming once a week and we are starting a music class.

We also do a lot of pram /sling walks and he sometimes likes his rocker with lights and music and play mat. Also read a bit.

Is there anything else anyone can think of he might enjoy? He is five months on Sunday.

Messy play? Get a big cheap tray and fill it with different things every so often. Porridge oats. Coloured rice. Jelly. Shaving foam.

I'm guessing these aren't running ATM.but stick some nursery rhymes on YouTube and do your own bounce and rhyme type session.

Treasure baskets are great

Mine is 5 months, here are some things he likes:

Pulling sensory scarves out of a cardboard box with holes in it

Water play - pouring water out of little plastic cups etc

Building stacks of cups, putting smaller cups inside bigger cups, knocking cups over etc

Length of silk ribbon tied to a stick, twirled around over his head

Bouncing games on my knee

That toy where you push shapes through the holes in the lid of a box

Baby massage

Rolling a ball to me, back and forth

Sensory bottles (water bottles with water and glitter etc, or no water but rice / pasta, lids superglued on)

Sensory pouch (laminating pouch filled with shower gel, sequins and buttons then ironed at the seams and strengthened with duck tape

Peeling lengths of tape off of his high chair tray

Singing and clapping to nursery rhymes

There are two great Instagram accounts with loads of ideas for activities with babies - one is called something like ‘an activity a day’ and the other one is ‘everyday we play’. They’ve given me loads of great ideas.

I really appreciate these replies but I was wondering about baby groups others did really. So sorry that wasn’t clear.

At that age my DD liked informal baby groups in the children's centre where they just put a load of toys out and then there's sometimes be a song and story at the end. Also liked going to church playgroups that would have a little baby section with toys out and again sometimes songs at the end. I think that kind of unstructured safe environment for them is stimulating and enjoyable for them too not just structured activities. I also used to go to the cinema with her for the screenings where you could take your baby which was totally for my own enjoyment don't get me wrong but passed the time and she didn't mind! Occasionally we'd do things like visit stately homes, museums, set galleries etc with her in the baby carrier or whatever too. Mostly for us but at least a change of scenery for her too.
