My son had his 16 week jabs today. At first he cried a bit but then he was smiling within a few minutes. He seemed more tired than usual but apart from that he was fine until I gave him his bottle for bed, he ended up being sick everywhere (and not just the usual bringing up milk) I gave him to my partner and he told me he seemed hot so he stripped him to his nappy and checked his temperature and it was 38.1. He's seems very grumpy and we're struggling to get him to settle. We had given him some calpol before he was sick but I'm not sure he had any or if he threw it all up. Is this normal? I don't think he was like this with his other jabs

Did he have the rotavirus vac? That can make them v grotty

My DS was okay after his but I know two friends in our NCT group whose little ones really suffered after their vaccinations with high temps. One ended up in A&E as his temp was so high.!Keep them cool, alternate calpol and neurofen, check temp regularly and if in doubt, call 111.

Mine was fine with 1st jab, then second jab had a very high temp and ill, so it is normal that that don't react the same from each jab.
And, she would occasionally to be sick after Calpol if she'd had milk.
How long til you can give the next does of Calpol?
Follow your gut, but it can be scary after the jabs when their temp spikes. Did they give you a leaflet with what to expect temp wise (as I think the guidance has changed since mine was that age).

Yes, it's normal for babies to have fever after their injections.

We had the opposite, fever at 8 & 12 weeks, but no fever at 16 weeks. The vomiting might be because of the fever or the rotavirus vaccine. If you are still worried tomorrow morning, call your GP and ask to speak to the nurse and they will be able to tell what to do. If the fever gets too high call 111 and they will be able to put you in touch with an out of hours doctor.

He can have calpol again in about an hour. He seems abit more settled now but he's still got a fever and if partner puts him in his cot he cries. I'm not sure if that could be his jabs or a sleep regression?

My son vomited really badly after his 4months jabs, like a violent projectile that emptied his stomach. I was expecting a temp but not getting sick. I rang the gp and they weren't concerned at all they just said keep him hydrated. He did this twice and the temp went after 48 hours.

If he was sick after taking the calpol he might not have absorbed it all and hopefully will feel a bit better with the next dose.

Try not to worry about getting him in his cot if you can. He probably feels quite poorly and just wants to close to you.

Hi

I just wanted to comment to say that my little girl was like this after hers. She was hot grumpy unsettled and wouldn't keep anything down.

The best thing I found was - plenty of drink if you can even small amounts,
Lukewarm bath, cold compress on head and injections site, Calpol and put in light clothing.

Hope this helps, try not to worry if you are still concerned tomorrow call gp.

teateaandcoffee · 13/05/2021 23:44

Hope you managed to give more calpol and it’s brought his temp down

This is from the NHS website. I know it is from vaccinations but the advice would be the same.

Please reassure me this is normal!

And this. I hope he's ok!

My DS was fine after his 8&12 week jabs but at his 16 week jab, he was really groggy, cried most the day didn't want to be put down just wanted to be held. Didn't have much of his milk that day. Had to keep him topped up on calpol, checking his temp which was slightly raised. He got better after 48hrs.

If in doubt call 111
