Hi,
So im a few weeks off from starting to wean my LO, im a first time mum so haven't experienced this before and I just want to make sure the right way to do this.

I have seen that you initially start off with 1 meal a day so im thinking about doing the 2nd feed of the day (lunch time) I've read different things on offering the food before/after a milk feed? Im thinking if she has her bottle first she isn't really going to be interested in eating anything after?

My HV advised to mash the food rather than blending smooth, I shop at aldi and I was thinking about buying some of there pouches for my LO to try different flavours but the 4+ month range are smooth?

Things I have thought of trying is mashed potatoes, carrots, banana, brocolli and also baby rice along side trying some of the pouches from aldi - does this seem ok?

How do you progress with the weaning week by week? X

Hi! I'm a FTM and have just started weaning my DS! It is all a bit of a learning curve and I don't think there is one right answer. I ordered a free pack from Ella's Kitchen and the Ella's kitchen first taste book (which is brilliant) that I have been following as a guide. I did lots of vegetable purees at lunch time. I made the purees quite thick but no lumps. I did milk first and then food an hour later which has worked well for me. I've done lots of batch cooking and frozen the food in ice cube trays which has really helped. It is all a very exciting time!

The mashed ideas you have sound perfect, but i’d avoid the baby rice as it’s filling but provides very little nutritional benefits.

Have you looked at baby led weaning at all?

Re weaning in general, FeedEatSpeak on Instagram is brilliant and has loads of information on her page.

We started with first tastes of single vegetables for a week or two and then mixed flavours, introduced other things etc. We did a mixture of pureed and mashed. We have now introduced foods he can feed himself too. Personally I do a mixture of traditional spoon fed and baby led.

Started with one meal a day and then worked up to three over a month or so. Really just see how your baby responds to it, mine loves food all the time but they are all different.

We always leave a gap between milk and food. So for example milk 7am, breakfast 8am. I know some people do it the other way round and sometimes I might over lunch if milk isn't due. Also its good to make sure it's before they get sleepy. So sometimes lunch might be 11.30am if I know he will be ready for a nap at 12.

I love SR nutrition on Instagram and she also has a great Facebook group and has just brought out a book.
